Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Canada.. What are your thoughts???

I want to start off by saying that I am not employed by Everest (CCI), but my spouse is... UGH!!!! I get to hear all the wonderful news on a daily basis, and I have come to my own conclusions. It really is a shame what is happening. I have seen my spouse go from a person who "LOVED" their job (as an admissions rep) to someone who hates getting up in the morning to slug their way to work. The trickle affect has definitely reached Canada. Lack of consumer confidence in the school has meant a significant drop in inquiries, thus enrollments are down. Management.. Don't go making these hard working people feel like the savior of the company rests on their shoulders. Unrealistic quotas as per enrollments/referrals etc will NOT make the company more profitable!!! All it will get you is a bunch of admission reps with poor attitudes and probably make them go elsewhere. There are a lot of sales jobs out there!!! However, maybe this is what you want. But the big picture on this is simply.. No admissions reps, means, no enrollments which translates into lower revenue and thus more schools forced to teach out. Not the best way to try and sell your company. MONEY MANAGEMENT!!!! Now there's the answer. But PLEASE!!! Trying to save money by not supplying toner for individual printers????? Make sure you print on BOTH sides of the pages.. LMAO!! What a joke!!! Let's save money where it will really show a difference. How many departments at the campus level have Directors???? How redundant are these positions.. Does a campus with 4 or 5 admissions reps REALLY need a 'DIRECTOR"??? I think not. Would not a single divisional director suffice??? Do you really need that director at the campus level to simply forward emails received from the division head.... That's 100+ campuses paying out $50,000.00 + each(just guessing) to have someone forward emails... That's $5,000,000.00 saved annually saved instantly!!!!! Takes a lot of saved toner to recoup that type of money. How many other directors at the campus level are a useful as the director of admissions. CANADA.... WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS

572.. As I am the original poster on this particular thread, I will reply as follows. #1.. As I do not know HOW things are done in the States I can only make assumptions based on things I have read through out this blog. However, in Canada, if prior educational transcripts can not be provided, testing is done to assure that the prospect is capable of comprehending and successfully completing their selected course. Therefore, the completed course percentage is quite high. Sure you get the odd bad egg (referring to admissions reps) you get that in any type of industry and/or business, but is it really fair to lump them all into one category??? Where you find them becoming jackasses (so to speak) here in Canada is with regards to the "Master" rep status. Granted.. at one time, and in most cases, these "Master" reps attained this status when the campus was in it's development stage. Without a doubt, since they were able to attain "Master" status they were good at their job. As you may or may not know.. Once "Master" status is attained, a much higher percentage of leads are distributed to this rep compared to the other reps. From an initial business stand point, this makes sense. Give the leads to a proven producer. This does 2 things.. It keeps your producer happy as they are getting more leads, thus more sales, therefore the ability to maintain their status. It will also weed out the non producers. The non "master" status reps will get fed up with not getting the number of leads they feel they deserve, and will eventually leave for what will hopefully be greener pastures. The Master rep is put in a gilded cage... They can do NO wrong in the eyes of management, and are treated as such. They themselves (the master rep) start to believe that their own shit does not stink!!! They themselves feel that they can break company policy, and steal back leads that they NO LONGER have rights to, and management will back them up as they feel they must keep their gilded one HAPPY. But put the same circumstance on the other foot and believe me, the company policy WILL be followed. THIS IS WHERE YOU GET THE JACKASSES!!! The problem with this structure is as follows. Let's say you have a campus with 5 reps.. 1 of them attained Master rep status years earlier and has been coddled ever since. One of the remaining 4 reps is very good at their job.. Maybe all 4 of them are.. But with the "master" rep being entitled to almost 50% of the leads that come into the campus, HOW IN THE HELL can ANY of the remaining reps even come close to attaining Master rep status. Their enrolls to leads percentage might be very close to the "master" reps percentage, but when the master rep is getting 50% of the leads, and the remaining 4 reps must split the remaining 50%, that only gives each one remaining rep 12.5% of the leads making it impossible to attain that "GILDED" opportunity. So.. all you Master Reps out there.. Congratulations on attaining your status!!! It was rightfully deserved a the time, but you have maintained your prosperous position NOT though the hard work that got you there, but through being spoon feed by management. You're NOT that good anymore, and if put on level ground with your piers, the truth would shine through.

Most of the admissions reps are jackasses. Who cares what happens to them.

Well said 308!!! 314. I agree with your thought as to your #1. As for #2. I agree to a certain extent, as this may have been the case in the past. However, anyone applying for an admissions position with CCI at this time, or any time in the future would have to be out of their minds. They should try to take care of those that they have As for #3. You might be right. But if they were more profitable NOW, then maybe they would be able to stash more away in order to look after those kids while they are wearing their pretty stripped suits. :-)

Thoughts: 1. Confusing CCI executive management decisions with logic is a common mistake. 2. The company eally does not care about admission rep morale given that they are viewed as easily replaceable. 3. CCI has much larger issues. Hard to crrate enlightened policies when you are worried about how to take care of your kids after going to jail.
