A couple months ago I ran into a former Staples driver now driving for OnTrac here in SoCal. He stated that Staples personnel went to their hub and had meeting with On Trac drivers revealing that Staples was interested in signing a contract with On Trac to deliver Staples product. Any one else know anything about this?

Ontrac driver told me today they were told they were going to get half if not all staples freight sometime next year here in SoCal. Who knows if this is true. It's hard to tell what's really going to happen.
Anon41194 - also, you're not just losing some $ in manhours, you're talking TA's, directors, VP's, trucks, benefits, leases, analysts, ect. That is a lot of $ when all is said and done, which means you have no need for a fleet department. They will beed to beef up the courier support people (there is one courier manager for a region,) vs literally hundreds of support people for the fleet and hundreds of trucks and associates. If you still work for Staples in the fleet department, you really should consider getting out sooner rather than later unless you can afford to live off the severance that you get while looking for a new job.
Anon41194 - they quietly closed 6 SDO's late last year and early this year. They've now announced 12 more. There were only 55 or so start. Subtract 20 from 55 and you're now down to 35. Closing Miami and Detroit, 2 huge locations, told me they were very serious. What is to stop them from closing all of them - customer satisfaction? They've already proven they don't care about customer satisfaction with the closings and moving to 3rd party in the closed locations. 20 down, 35 to go...
Well I guess closing all the SDOs will save them SOME $$$ in reduction in manhours, having to pay benefits etc. but to compete with amazon? I LOL'd that's a heckuva a lot people to layoff. You think they'll go thru with it.?
Staples is slowly closing all the SDO's one at a time. If you work for Staples in logistics I would highly recommend finding a new job sooner than later. They are looking to save 1 BILLION dollars and compete with Amazon. Good luck with that!
SDO where I am was given the information last week. drivers last day mid november.
I heard rumors about this. I thought this was not realistic.
There has been SDO closures announced early last week.. delivery going to 3rd party later this year.
