Adobe Training = New Talisma?

Which other instructors received a "mandatory adobe training" for contacting students when admissions are closed and there may not even be classes assigned next term? It looks like a whole new way to waste my time with "student outreach". This should be what the academic advisers are doing. I find the whole "please keep working when I refuse to tell you if as an adjunct you have a class assigned" concept insulting.

On the other hand if this is part of the transition for a sale of an online factor of the university at least let us know so we don't think we are wasting out time!

The classes are barely filling and they assign classes that have no chances of filling. I think they do it so you will continue to work hard and believe you have classes, when they are saving all classes for those that just keep passing everyone through. My retention is very high, but I will flunk a student that doesn't do the work. I suspect after 9 years, this will be my last quarter that is just ending, I see the writing on the wall. Some of the new PD's are the worst I've ever seen. Not sure what their marching orders are? Can't get a straight answer out of anyone like it used to be.

But I suspect they will keep Everest online open long enough so the Feds don't have to cancel very many Fed loans. That's what it's really about in the back dark rooms where deals are made. Everything else is smoke and mirrors.

Unfortunate for the adjuncts because you get the short end of the stick. Full time faculty at least have guaranteed courses, but even so last term I had two courses with no students at all. They were dropped after two weeks. Then I got slammed with two mini-term courses as a substitute.

Talisma? Ha...barely use that and Skype. I will say there is a way to send emails to multiple students at a time through Talisma. There is also a way to text and CALL multiple students at a time in Skype. It is a nice feature to save a lot of time and "do the outreach"... :wink

The whole outreach is BS...it is just harassing the students.

325, good luck and don't worry about the brand. You would be surprised how little anyone outside if us knows what's going on. This is 320 again. I interviewed several times and took an offer that was more money, better fit (I.e. Students want to be at the U I teach at now.) Nobody who hired me knew anything about my school. It was an interview based on my skills and education and experience. I got 3 offers from different schools. I only work as part time adjunct so I didn't accept them all. Anyway, best of luck to you and everyone else. I probably won't be back much if at all. It's time to move on from this period of my life and many of those on the board who cruelly and ignorantly nobody will get hired again. It was not true. Forward and onward!!!!

I am sorry that is the worst. I am not attending this training unless I have a class with students in it. I have an interview next week for another university so I have my fingers crossed.

I had the most ridiculous experience last term. I had 3 classes that never filled. The Sat before classes started I emailed my boss to inquire about it, thinking it was an oversight/mistake. She assured me my classes would fill or they would give me other classes. So, I spent alot of time prepping for the first few weeks of class. On Monday I received an email from a new boss telling me my classes looked good and to post in the discussion and otherwise run empty classes, because he felt confident they would fill. They never did. And of course I never got paid for my time, since they don't send out contracts until week 3. And then I never heard from them again. (I was ECPO.) at least so stopped checking my email after week 4 and decided that even if asked back for this term, I would not accept it. The utter lack of professionalism just proves what kind of crap school it is. I found something new. Better money, no begging students to come to class. They did me the biggest favor. I can't imagine ever working a job like that again. It was a terrible experience, from the hiring process to them just dumping me. It's all good.

This is true, I never prep the course until I see something in the grade book. I typically assume that if I am not assigned a course then I will not be after that. What has your experience been? Have you had courses assigned after a term that nothing was assigned?

I had 2 classes assigned for this term and neither filled. Having a class assigned doesn't guarantee work.
