Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Adjunct Faculty

Recently, I have been accused of not completing tasks that I clearly have completed by the due date. For example, I was told that I did not complete grading by Sunday, when in fact, I did. I was also told that I did not do intro posts, or post the minimum number of posts in the discussion boards. Both of these things are untrue. I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this?

According to FA guidelines students must be dropped if no attendance for 14 days. If they return within 14 days Faculty are responsible to assist students to catch. Same policy at. Non profit, profit or state schools

Please stop talking about it and do something. Go online and write a complaint to the attorney generals office. Give names and any other info you can this was done in CA and she filed a complaint against them. This is what started all the legal action. Do not call the hot line it will only blow up in your face. You can do it anonymously. If they are going to fire you for no reason why should they walk.

33333 - it's not what they bring to the table, they know where the bodies are buried. Lots of higher ups getting basically blackmail money. Well, at CSC anyhow.

312 - they are trying to seem valuable by belittling your professional efforts. If instructors can be made out to be immature, lazy imbeciles then we obviously need lots of managers to supervise everything we do. It is such a mystery to me why we still have such an overabundance of chiefs for the injuns doing the work. What does Jack imagine all of those managers are bringing to the table?

I'm EUO adjunct and I have been getting emails saying my discussion posts are too "terse" (that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard)... I've had good to excellent retention, student reviews and end of term evals every term and now I'm getting emails micromanaging my discussion posts. Not sure if it's just a bad PD or if it is something like what the OP is describing (setting up a "paper trail" to let me go after this term).

Everest doesn't give a shit about it's instructors. We aren't even instructors. I've been teaching 20 years and what we do is NOT instruction. I'm ECPO and I see the attendance fraud every day. We have NO control over attendance. It's automated so only management can change it. They don't. But they don't drop students at all. Last term I had students in week 12 who hadn't participated since weeks 2, 3, and 4. Totally illegal. FA fraud. It'll be shocking to me if they are able to sell schools that are stealing from the government without even trying to hide it. But, they've done it so long.

256, adjuncts won't be technically fired or laid off. We are considered temporary, part time. That means they can just not schedule you again. Why they are giving out PIPs and other warnings is very weird. Why are they bothering? My guess is so deans can just look busy and look like they are doing work.

It's amazing to me that they will go to all this trouble just to fire people rather than laying off. I guess it might save them a little in unemployment, but at what cost to a good instructor? At least if they can you, you won't have to worry about what they say to potential employers for long. There'll be nobody to call so you can say what you like! I don't know why I'm always surprised at their behavior. They commit outright fraud in attendance to get financial aid for students who are supposed to be dropped (attendance taking schools). I have actually seen it, and they're not even subtle about it. One attendance posting every 14 days to keep pumping in the fed funds. They are true crooks.

My AD keeps sending out emails reminding instructors what is due and when. I think it's ridiculous. They can fake attendance, but damn, we had better follow rules ourselves! It sounds weird. They can let go of adjuncts any time and they let a bunch if adjuncts go at ECPO with no warning. Seems like something else is up.

My classes didn't fill this term, so I just got dumped along with a ton of adjuncts at ECPO this term. Best thing that ever happened to me. I found a gig with better money and no Outreach.

292, adjunct faculty is at will. They can let you go anytime for any reason.

I am in the same boat. Four yrs teaching with excellent reviews. They put me on a Pip a couple weeks ago for Bs stuff. I am done after this term in any case but it was a slap in the face for them to do a Pip. it is happening to a lot of good adjuncts.

Also, you CAN collect unemployment as an adjunct, depending on your state. You may not get a lot of money if you work for other schools, but if you are not being given reasonable assurance of recall for the next term, and are not guaranteed work, you absolutely qualify.

Take a screenshot to document. It may just be that a manager can't track things the right way.

Also, I work for a large state university, so this was not a big source of my overall income. It just makes me sick to see what they are trying to do. Believe me, I will fight back with every legal resource that I have.

I agree I'm being set up, but I couldn't collect unemployment because I'm adjunct. I have documented everything and CC'd it to Patrick Fitzgerald. :)

You are being set up. Management

is laying the groundwork to dismiss you with cause so that you can not collect unemployment. Respond to their allegations in writing and document everything.
