Incentive To Attend

Just wondering....of all who're now screaming "foul!" about all of the many unethical and unscrupulous acts committed by CCi through their brands (Everest, Wyotech and/or Heald) did any of you ever, even one time, buck the system and call attention to those acts PRIOR to the demise of the company and your jobs?

Let's start with the blatant incentive to attend known (at Everest schools) as bus passes and fuel cards "to help our struggling students realize their dreams, blah, blah, blah...". That practice is and always was a clear violation of federal regulations. Now, of course, when questioned, all EVPs noted that the 'practice' was signed-off by Beth Wilson; as if she trumped the feds.

For those of you who accepted that "explanation" and supplied students with those incentives to attend thinly veiled in fuel card form; Shame on you! You, at that time, followed the leader, nodding your head in blind submission and drank from the Kool-Aid in "Jack's Town".

I disagree about a poor education. Everyone on my department holds a Masters or PhD. Those are no easy feet to earn. All curriculum is design by a group of SMEs with graduate degrees. If someone is getting a poor education, it's because the student can't be bothered to come to class. Retention is a critical problem. But a student cannot get an education if he or she refuses to attend. I can't help who comes into my classroom. But they will get out of it what they put in. And I am willing to work one on one with any of my students. They rarely take me up on it and routinely blow off meetings. But none of it matters. I'm

Out after this term. I can't take the disrespect from students and ADs. Going to take my talents to a school that allows me to spend my time teaching and students want to be in school. Students who cannot appreciate the cost of their education make me sick. I worked hard to be in school. And guess what? I had a few bum profs. So what? You take the class and move on. Like grown ups. I wish I could have taken out so much in loans and gotten scholarships and grants.

What a bunch of whining and bitching over nothing. Our campus has offered free bus service from the dorms for ever. Nothing illegal about it. Some people will grasp at any straw you can to complain. Stick to the important issues.

FOCUS ON THE MAJOR ISSUE!!!!! Education! Thus is ridiculous to call CCI out on minor enticements like gas cards and transportation help. My God! At least it's something given rather than taken. The major wrongdoing is poor education, high student debt and reporting. OP is so in left field

It's called cost of attendance forward. Check out what federal regs allow. Transportation costs are legal.

932, yes. I am ECPO. Laptops aren't illegal. Lots of colleges have them as part of their programs. For and non profit.

33919 - You're so naive! Refund checks (stipends), gas cards, "free" laptops...you have no idea the scams we have to entice the poor to sign up for our "career" service. Do you even work for CCi?

What the hell are gas cards for students?

OP, if you don't like what you're reading, feel free to find another board. You clearly don't understand the inner goings on of the company anyway, not do you read the posts her very carefully.

Ewwwwww fuel cards.... How luuuuuuring.....Baaaaaaaad. Bus passes... Criminal!!!! Those are hardly incentives that were deal makers Title IV funding, and other cash readily available programs devised by the government were more of an alluring "incentive" than gas cards. Students knew how to work the system that way. I wish people would stick to the real wrong doing... Poor education and outrageously high loan debt.

People who think everyone in a 10,000 person company was compliant in law breaking and wrongdoing is an idiot. It cannot happen that way.

894, there was no conspiracy that I am aware of. I knew nothing of any of this before June. And all I know is what I read in the paper. People are angry about it internally. I for one have done or seen nothing. So why don't you stop blaming everyone at the company. Who are you to judge?

To "Surviving": Not judging. Actually refreshing to see an honest, open response. I understand those who turned their heads and kept their mouths shut to feed families. I simply want all to realize that anyone who did that is/was part of the problem. CCi and its henchmen couldn't peddle improprieties and violate federal regulations without campus personnel ready, willing and able to 'do the deeds'. So, before you yell about how wrong Massimino, Bosic, Ferguson, Stiglich, etc. are; take a good hard look in the mirror. Some of the blame lies on all those who said "yes, sir, right away" without question.

878- Yes, that part was clear. CCi cannot give anything to a prospect or anyone else for enrolling, but once the student is in class, transportation costs are legitimate and legal. The anyone else includes employees too. That said, if the "gift" is without respect to enrolling, such as how the GED program was run, then that's perfectly fine too. Once the student is in class, giving things, such as student appreciation day stuff, bus tickets, and so on is not prohibited.

It's a form of bribery for a student who is receiving their money from the government. It's the same reason admissions stopped giving out sweatshirts/hats/tshirts to students who referred another student. No school gives you anything for coming to class.

Bottom Line: Look, we worked through a bad economy, jobs were scarce, so we turned our heads or held our noses and did things that were wrong, to feed our families. Don't Judge.

867; look up the regulations. It's a good read and you'll learn a lot. As I was recently "requested" to depose my experience with proprietary education, that was one area the state attorneys found particularly interesting.

868; agreed. Life expectancy is short-lived. I guess that's when you have to ask yourself if you'd rather go down doing what's right or stay and be submissive to Kool-Aid peddlers. I chose the first option.

As far as "buck the system and call attention to those acts PRIOR to the demise of the company and your jobs?" I've seen plenty who did. Life expectancy at Everest goes down to near zero.
