Please! C'mon! You can do it! GM is a sweet gig, all you gotta do I'd run a store and be responsible for its performance during the darkest era in company history. C'mon! It's pretty nifty!

Pretty much the pitch they gave me for GM, I felt like I was interviewing them for the job, you can't give this crap away, that's why last week I returned it!
The "new" GMs coming in lately are horrible. They either drank a lot of the coolaide during the interview or are just completely incompetent. I do not know which is worse, a GM that sits in the office and takes two hour lunches or is out on the floor but acting insane.
Staple's situation is widely known, so getting good manager's from other companies is rare. Pretty soon HR will be camped out in front of jails and sanitariums waiting to hire convicts and the (formerly) insane.
