To many little chiefs

Too many little chiefs

As an adjunct for many many years, I can see the problem from the outside. Too many chiefs, I now have way to many bosses , all of them wanting more and more meetings, calls to students, emails to students. If Everest is going to survive, fire a lot of the so called program directors/small chiefs, stop pushing the teachers to use the stupid Citrix/Talisma, let the instructors start focusing on the student s work and hire more student counselors/admissions. They should do the Citrix/Talisma. Way too many little chiefs that do not generate money. I had a way better retention rate before I had to start calling and emailing everyone. Its not working, we allow students to post anytime, so they wait until the end. When we as instructors could tell them to post or lose the opportunity, the students stepped up, why should they now, when they can wait until the end. Bad direction from above. These little program directors and other bosses are a waste of time. They spend all their time checking if you called or emailed. Worthless, no one answers their phones, I wouldn't if I was a student. Go back to when the instructors could creatively work with students.

Our CIS online PD RT is a real butthole. He is the king of micromanaging. He thinks the department will fall apart without him and even got an exception from the furlough. Instead of taking the week off, he got permission from the useless Dean JS to work 4 hours a day. The whole CIS department administration is horrible. Not even sure what these yutzes do for their pay.

Before this idiot PD, we had a history major running the CIS department as Assistant Dean. He was promoted from an academic assistant (secretary) position to dean. Yup really. He was one of several in online that had the same career path due to friends in higher places.

I never understood how an English major could run a CIS department. In "real" colleges, you would never see this. The Dean and Program Chair would have a similar degree to the department they represented. I do not see the purpose of a PD other than to micromanage. Do instructors really need that level of unnecessary stress and micromanagement? There may be some good PD's out there but I know of one that is inexplicably awful.

This is one of the best threads on this board. Although there is a diversity of perspectives, I think each post is spot on.

This is what happens when you run a school (or any business, I suppose) with a bunch of jackasses who know nothing about the core business and have no actual education experience. So many asshole at CCI have hired friends and family into mid-level positions, and now they expect the rest of us to suffer so they can hold onto their unnecessary jobs as leaches. It's weird, because not only do our executives know nothing about education but they really suck at the basics of running a successful business. What good are those losers?

I think the faculty members know what is going on. Everything is for show. Have students in "class" who really cant do the work. Make notes of the contact we had with students who did now show up. Have "meetings" at the campus to discuss "success" and the "mission." We know what is up and so does everyone else involved. I try to tutor students after class but the ones who need it wont take the help. Sad.

It's too bad they won't listen because they're arrogant and don't know how to run a school
