Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

Campuses that do a teachout

Might be taught out by a different organization: Within thirty (30) days from the date hereof, Corinthian shall prepare and deliver to the Department the teach-out plans for all U.S. locations that participate in the Title IV Program. These plans may include agreements with other institutions to take over the teach-out process. http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1066134/000110465914047575/a14-15891_1ex10d1.htm

Maybe 'other institutions' will do the teach out?

598, any JC will take on Everest students who are attending a campus that doesn't get purchased by ECMC. The difference between the JC' s and Everest is if the student can't read, the JC instructors will flunk them. That being said, other money grabbing for profits like DeVry and Univ of Phoenix will grab them, and take their money and pass them thru. There are many, many for profits that will suck up these students in a heartbeat. ITT, Ashford and a host if others. And since you just fell of the turnip truck, every University in the ACC, SEC, Mountain West, WAC, Big 12 etc has student athletes that cannot read or write beyond 3rd grade level. Welcome to the United States if stupidity.

The financial undertaking could be huge for schools offering to teach out these students. Multiple things to look at like open loan terms, appropriate transfer of credit, etc...

520, it will take tremendous resources on behalf of these institutions to ensure an education for many Everest students. I've taught at many colleges, and I can tell you that there is a very high percentage of barely literate students. CCI has not put in the time or money to give these students foundation classes and tutoring they desperately need. This transition will be a real eye opener for institutions that have heard the rumors.

I hope that this thread makes everyone aware that most of us are all going to lose our jobs. Maybe not right away, but eventually most of us are gone. ECMC is not going to be your salvation. Why do you think that working for ECMC is going to be better than CCi? Get an employer on your terms, not CCi. CCi has already screwed us over. Any sale is going to benefit Jack(ass) and all his cronies, not us! Wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

489, you are right. Other colleges will take on Everest students who are attending campuses that will be closing. Other for profits like DeVry, Univ of Phoenix will be happy to take these students since Everest already has articulation agreements with those two colleges. JC's will also step in and take these students as well. Everest students would be wise to transfer to a non profit Regionally accredited Jr college, instead of another Nationally accredited for profit college. Sad for those employees who work for those Everest campuses that will not be purchased by ECMC, but that's what happens when your campus is run by greedy, incompetent campus Presidents, Directors, Regional DOA's and RVP's. Crime and greed does not pay in the long run. To those Everest campuses that were operated by honest, hard working management and staff, you are about to receive a second chance. Don't f*** it up. Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat it.

It's very common that students will move to other schools to continue. It's revenue for the schools that take the students. In many cases, it's difficult at best to transfer credits to other schools (how do they make $ if they take credits?) This is a rare exception.

The struggle will be to find an institution willing to take on students who are ill prepared for college. Most every other for profit and tech college in the US has some type of entrance or competency exam to ensure students can read and write at a college level. Who will be willing to take these challenges on?
