CCI has no leverage. A potential buyer knows that DOE has imposed a deadline to get a deal done. The closer we get to the deadline, the better the deal probably gets for the buyer. Result: if a sales happens (why would anyone want this mess....) it is likely to occur at the very last moment. If I am not mistaken, I believe that is 12/31.

717, 720 and OP (all the same, IMO) I never said anything about logic. It's not about logic and it's not a fire sale. You must have DOE and all Accredidation approvals. There must be a business or turnaround plan. It's not buying a car. It's a business, first. But 30,000 plus students and thousands of employees over at least three separate businesses. Unless you understand what that all entails, I can't explain it. Unless a current for profit wants to 'take over' (unlikely given the state of the big for profits today) it would be haphazard at best for anyone to approach the purchase as a 'fire sale.' That's simply my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong. But then again, my opinion matters as much as yours at this point. Getting into the for profit game likely won't pay off in this economy. So, making a new business can't just happen with a twitch of the proverbial nose. I'm sorry if you think I'm arguing, because I'm not. But logically, the level of complexity dictates a long range plan.
OP's logic appears sound to me. I have felt all along that a smart buyer will until the deadline draws near.
OK, 713,please enlighten us. What is wrong with OPs logic?
They may have little leverage. But what you lack is an understanding about how multi million dollar publicly traded companies are bought and sold.
"Unless CCI has a way out with DOE" There is more than one way out!
It's a firesale situation, 708. Unless CCI has a way out with DOE, they have very little leverage with any potential buyer.
Yes, OP, because that's how business are sold. Just like a piece of furniture at a going out of business sale. Oh, and why would you think that a potential buyer would be reading this post? If anything, nobody would the schools based on what's written here. Don't assume you know anything about the business. You don't. Anyone who does has signed a non disclosure.
@697 spoken from your abundance of ignorance
I agree, I've been saying for awhile now that CCI has no hammer here.
