What are your predictions for 2015? Layoffs? No Layoffs? Growth? Stagnation? There are many factors in play here, what do you think about the impact of the China decisions? Commoditization of our products? I am just curious to see what my peers from all over the world think. Please keep it civil.

I've heard there have been suicides and managers who have "panic attacks," due to stress and layoffs. The most interesting book I've found on how to quickly get rid of "mental illness," is to read Dr. Edith Fiore's book called, The Unquiet Dead," about discarnate "spirit possession." My personal experience is that a good hypnotherapist is often better than most LCSW's who only focus on brief solution focus and referrals to a psychiatrist for medications. I use holy basil and extra magnesium to help strengthen the nervous system and they help me feel "less stress." Also, Holy Basil has been used by monks to "feed the calm the brain." Anyone who is feeling sad or anxious, or has noticed a sudden mood change for the worse, can get Dr. Fiore's book on amazon for less than $10 paperback. I agree with her concept that transgenders are usually caused from a deceased person's spirit having possessed the living person that makes the living person feel like the opposite sex is "trapped inside" of him/her. There is scientific proof that when people die, they only change form and their minds (souls) still are very much alive.
In the meantime, Qualcom founder Mr. Jacobs, is the 2nd largest contributor to Obama's democratic party and holds fundraisers almost yearly in his personal home in La Jolla, CA. He can afford to lay off 4,000 people world wide in 2014 but can't afford to stop his payoffs and fundraisers to Obama's democratic party.

To Anonymous52744, I think Intel is our biggest hope (when we get laid off by Qualcomm).
I have read that a company that conducts a large downsizing is automatically frozen out of H1-B hiring for 6-12 months (e.g. you can't have a huge layoff and then complain that you can't find talent). If that is true, either Q will not hire at all for a large part of 2015, or they will only be able to hire US citizens. Given that Qualcomm has demonstrated for many years that they don't think American engineers are willing or capable to get the job done, I'd be surprised if there was any engineering staffing growth in 2015.
2015 is going to be a very interesting year. I think we are seeing saturation in the high-tier segments. There is no compelling reason to upgrade your phone every year. Most people just want better battery life now. The mid-tier and low-tier segment is where the growth is in developing markets, but Mediatek is a major player in that segment and margins are low. We don't have any design wins in the tablet market either. I think 2015 will provide a very good indication of where we are headed as a company. I think we have reached a peak in 2013-14 with the release of Snapdragon 800 which was a massive success. I can't help but feel that it is either downhill or a plateau from now on
