Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

Short Sighted

It's strange that a couple big companies are laying off yet I'm getting calls from headhunters everyday. I see potentially good news for ex and soon to be ex-SLB employees. There are companies out there who will take advantage of the talent hitting the market. There are some companies still buying. In 6 months the big companies will be hiring again and paying headhunter fees on top of that. This will cost them more in the long run.

I got laid off yesterday and just after I was frog marched out they also got rid of a graduate who had been in out department for about 3 months. He had come from New Mexico to Texas as well for the job. They are being very unprofessional in my opinion, I have worked globally and even as a contractor I have never been treated so badly.

Everyone should be worried. SLB demonstrated they have no loyalty.

Any idea what division/office is seeing layoffs? I've accepted a position with SLB to start when I graduate and curious if I should be worried.

Most of our folks are really good, I would not be surprised if all of the laid off people find work within 3 months
