Thread regarding Schlumberger Ltd. layoffs

They did the same 2 rounds at 6-7% in 2009 ... And yes it sucks

SLB does little performance based layoffs every Q1 but both 2009 and now 2015 (and probably prior) saw huge cuts and as one of the posters mentioned, the performance and early retirement make sense but a lot don't! The ones that don't are often (for SLB) folks on visas or international mobile as they nets them additional short term cost saving without thought to the long term retention/technology/performance strategy (and I suppose folks who their managers are threatened by because a lot depends on your existing managers in these decisions)- I worked for the behemoth years ago and while I still have a soft spot, and I have some of the best memories, I also have some of the worst and I know/accept the unfortunate reality! The bottom line matters more than people ... They have more loyalty to investors than employees - and the market has already thanked them for it with a halt to the free fall today!! And yes there is much to be desired from how they go about it !
