Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Celebrating the right things?

AUO today had a "celebrating graduates" ceremony. This is definetly a step in the right direction from the days of celebrating getting applications. But is it enough? Strapping someone with $67,000 in debt for a diploma from an EDMC school....is that something to celebrate? I think we should be celebrating job placement. Because that diploma isnjust toilet paper if it doesn't help you secure a solid job. Thoughts?

Any "degree" from any EDMC is a joke. Idiots enrolling even bigger idiots into worthless programs and putting them into debt when all they might get is an entry level job that does not require an $85k joke of a "degree." The morons in here defending EDMC are just stooges for corporate.

You do realize that $67,000 is every bit as expensive as real colleges, right? The difference being if you have a degree from Drexel people will recognize it and appreciate it. Can you say that about Argosy, South, or brown Mackie? No. No you can't. Secondly I'm not talking about job placement I'm talking about who actually finds good jobs after graduating from an EDMC school. Finally, you don't need a degree to be successful. Know what an extremely high paying and in demand job is right now? High end car mechanic. You can make a killing in any niche job. EDMC is selling snake oil....at a very high price. If you don't see or believe that, call your school and get a refund because you're a damn fool.

60167 clearly you were not at the meeting, there are students graduating that are not employees and a lot of them. It is too bad your campus does not celebrate this.

60169 you post makes no sense at all, maybe proof read just a little so someone can understand what your word jumble means. i will have typos because it is just a layoff board but i can't make any sense of what you are saying "I took my MBA from Argosy to now leading the crooked company who ownes Argosy University. Yeah that sounds respectable!"

everyone feels uncomfortable with job security right now because of the environment but seeing employees having such disrespect for themselves is just embarrassing. Come on guys, how do you get up in the morning and go to work when you think like this. If you think you are working for a scam and you think something is wrong, then REPORT IT TO THE ATTORNEY GENERAL, THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, REPORTERS, CAMDEN KID OR WHATEVER HIS NAME IS ON HERE, whatever you think it is, quit because if you are doing something unethical or illegal, you will prosecuted too. So quit and take action. i believe in what i do, i believe my students and to see these posts i really wonder if i work in the same building as these folks or what is going on? Somewhere there is a disconnect because I'm not on the same page. Yes i don't want to be laid off, yes our company is not in the best place. But what we do is not wrong, it is education and we delivery a great education. What is the problem and what is the solution? if you can't identify, then think harder... when you do identify ask yourself if any other school has is doing the same thing. If the answer is yes, then the change may be harder than you think.

Did the school you graduate from have job placement? Mine did not and my school costs far exceed pell + standard loans. To go you have to have parent plus or some type of scholarships. You do realize people come out of college with far more loan debt and NO job placement. If everyone goes to school after highschool, the economy is not going to magically create jobs, you get that right? I can tell you someone without a degree is for certain at the bottom of the pile for possible candidates for any job when every other person has a degree. Please educate yourself seriously! It is so annoying to read these. Why do you work here if you are so negative. Put your two weeks in and go or at this rate, just walk out. Clearly you do not care. At one point it was a culture about getting the application but with people like you that culture can not change. Also do some research on the few schools that do job placement...my cousin's school did real sweet dob placement, she paid almost $45,000 for her graphic design degree and you know what her job placement placed her at... $8.75. Wow you better alert the press, what a great rate?!?! She called her "career advisor" and they were unable to help her because she was placed in her field and if she didn't take the position then she was not using the placement and would not longer qualify. So her decision at that point was stay in the retail position she was making 12.50 because she got yearly raises while working there throughout school or take a paycut for her big fancy placement job of 8.75 an hour!

Our campus gave "special" awards for outstanding students at our last graduation. Several of those students were busted for plagiarism and stealing EDMC property. I have never seen instructors so pissed off before. I guess for EDMC there is nothing wrong with rewarding horrible ethics.

"Celebrating applications" is what got them into trouble in the first place right? These douchebags must not care that all of their employee graduates aren't revenue generating. Probobly just another ploy to "pad" the numbers. I took my MBA from Argosy to now leading the crooked company who ownes Argosy University. Yeah that sounds respectable!

It must have been an all-employee meeting since the only people who graduate are the employees who get to go for free. What can you do with an EDMC degree? End up in EDMC management! What a scam. They should really be celebrating that the government hasn't shut them down yet. Padlocks on the doors are forthcoming!
