Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Go MediaTek! Go!

As an employee of numerous companies that QC has screwed over in the past....

I am happy finally that a company like MediaTek is finally giving QC a run for its money...

Eat sh!t...Qualcomm. May MediaTek take more market share away from you...

@Anonymous58400, I don't get it. MediaTek is quite profitable, and they must have entered into a licensing agreement with Qualcomm if they have none of their own IP. Paying the tollkeeper is a perfectly acceptable alternative to innovation.

Is Mediatek stealing IP or selling at a loss? If so, link?

Just out of curiosity, how do they manage to produce chipsets without R&D. It's not a troll post, just curious.

Chipsets are unfortunately commoditized now (thanks MediaTek). They don't spend money on R&D, so they can afford to sell their chipsets for super cheap to compete with Qualcomm and Intel. They are flooding the space with cheap chips, which is getting them market share for now. But that will not last - you can't win long term by selling products at cost. in the end, all the SoC vendors will lose the pricing game. Qualcomm is seeing lots of cracks in its licensing business as they try to stay competitive with old technologies. The true asset is innovation and technology differentiation that nobody else can make.

Americans make "Ghostbusters". China makes "Ghost Cities" (real life horror movie).

The greatest malinvestment in the history of mankind. But it's carbon copy of NYC so it must be where the super rich ghosts hang out.

'Ericsson alleges that Xiaomi has infringed on Standard Essential Patents (SEPs), which are technologies patented and subjected to Fair, Reasonable and Non-Discriminatory (FRAND) terms, because everyone has to use them.'

How many patents have you in standards?

Is the TV industry just as whiny when somebody makes a glowing rectangle that looks like their own glowing rectangle?

God bless the patent trollbooth, but remember...great artists STEAL

The right way -- endless litigation.

Chinese way; Wait for iphonex, order materials from the same factory next door, put some apps with chinese titles and sell cheap. There are lots of IPs, which have value and needs years of research. As for copyright issue, I saw a small business lady in shark tank, she came up with a new product, gave to china for manufacturing and now there are several look alikes in the market. She is close to bankruptcy and was in tears by end of the show. IPs and copyrights affect all companies big and small the same way and it affects the innovator who invests money and time in research and design. If they think US patent system is bad, why don't the chinese companies release their "great products" in Europe/Japan/korea ?
