WesternGeco marine seismic fleet layoffs

We had large cuts at WesternGeco marine seismic fleet last year, 2015 will be even worse. It's very hard to find talent in this area and we lost many good folks that we will not be able to replace once the prices bounce and things start to improve. The management does not care though.

I was an Engineer as part of the ships crew, and along with many others was laid off in the reshuffle of 2002 when many of the older Westerns tonnage was scrapped.

I had been with the company for almost 13 years, the first few with Westerns, and the remainder with POLSA, the crewing agency they had set up in Jersey, so in effect we the crew were not really a part of Westerns, just the hired hands.

I had served on the old Western Artic, Anchorage, Patriot, Shore, Delta, finally the Trident which I took up to Norway to be laid up, and soon after the cuts came, so its nothing new to Westerns, they rise and fall with the oil game.

They did this because they expect oil companies to cut their investments in oil exploration, especially marine, a great deal for at least the next year.

BTW, WesternGeco was one of the most successful units for the longest time
