Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Safe?

I was invited to the 3:00 pm meeting and honestly I don’t understand why I was chosen over my coworkers. I have been here less than a year and my metrics are not the greatest but I was chosen over adjusters who have way more experience and better metrics. Even my CSL couldn’t give me a straight answer.

I felt sure I would be selected,, 22 years service,, salary topped out 3 years ago,, intentionally tried to fail the assessment, yet I was kept. Go figure??

The assessment was a lie. They're firing Boomers and Millennials.

I just hate waiting. No news for my department. No assessments.

The company saves $ by keeping you and letting go people with many more years under their belt. But they lose dedicated quality people who HAD given their all to the company. The company will pay the price for this. Loyalty means nothing to them obviously.

I finished the puzzle and I was let go. That assessment was some b—s—! Post the results otherwise, it's just fluff. I been with the company less than 2 years. The newbies who barely go in their files, were kept. High incomes, were kept. There no method to this madness. F#@k Allstate!

@1aen+176V9f3G...if the assessment was used to determine who got canned, why are people saying that they know people who didnt even take the assessment and deleted it and they were kept?

@svh+176V9f3G if you like I do know people across the company and have been able to see who has been let go you would know the method they said they used was actually what they used, I have seen managers who are at the top of the band but really not the best managers kept and managers who are more middle band laid off who are people that are involved and really great leaders. It has been completely random and the only thing that is common is those who were laid off all said they had trouble with that last problem solving part of the assessment.

It is all about the assessment, it has a huge weight in this formula and a few of my coworkers were talking about how they had trouble get 2 of them complete, then you have someone who is bragging about getting 8 puzzles done and he is kept even though he is one of marginal workers.

I know people who didn’t even take the assessment, and was kept. How did that happen?

I make a big salary.. like over the pay grade but grandfathered in... I am safe.. I think in some cases they looked at people and thought if they were going to be retiring in 2-3 years might as well keep them, and get the benefit of the experience... I think people closer to 50 were looked at as more of a liability

I don't believe it was purely or even mostly about salary. There were people on my team who had only been here a year who were also given notices, while some higher earning, longer tenured employees were kept.

You cost less. When I started I was making 45k. There are guys that were in my team making 70k that have been here 20+ years. They don’t care about quality or customer service, only who can do the cheapest work in a way that costs the company less money. We are all numbers in a spreadsheet. Just keep that in mind throughout your day.

Or maybe, theY will wait until November and put the underperforming adjusters on UNs and boot them out the door. No severance!

Because what they claimed these lay off decisions would be based on was a load of baloney and lies. They all along intended to keep the lesser lower quality employees as they see the "grunts" as senior leadership calls them at the same level as the India employees that they exploit as cheap labor.

I have no ideas other than to tell you that based on the assessment you may have shown a better proclivity to problem solving than your peers. Whatever the reason may be, good luck going forward.

I estimate it’s because you make less money than the more experienced coworkers.
