Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

AT&T and American employee layoffs

Time to start supporting companies that hire mostly American workers to support middle class jobs, it’s what made America great and helped many people to rise from poverty. It’s become a troubling trend for American companies to offshore or hire non American H1 visa contracted employees to replace upper and middle class jobs with good benefits. AT&T has accelerated their contracting, offshoring, layoffs and benefit reductions, they used to be a leader but now are followers.

It’s the race to the bottom, America is on the path to becoming like the Tsars of Russia which ushered in (Bolshevism) communism. Minority wealthy elite vs the majority poor masses with the loss of free will, liberties, and happiness. Wards of the state, history repeats for those whom are uninformed about the past. Those who don’t comply are either imprisoned, re-educated or put to death, still going on in communist states today.

Another company shill who thinks technicians jobs is unskilled work. Do you know how many “self installs” techs have to dispatch on to get their service working? CT’s or CF in apts. are about the only sure things. Installs are mostly done by entry level Wire Techs, if they run into issues beyond their scope of work, then I&M ST or FT repairmen are dispatched.

Hope you get one of those unskilled work assignments next year during work stoppage, if you get an easy contingency assignment is because they know you are incompetent, maybe you can get some training from those “skilled” Mastec and Ansco employees. Lol

“ I always find it hilarious that some people think the company can replace tens of thousands skilled and experienced technicians ”

lol, ever hear of Mastec ? To label T technicians overly skilled is quite funny. Self installs are the preferred method for T.

It has already started. Req's have been posted for numerous jobs in Dallas and ATL to replace all the people who refused to move. When these jobs inevitable do not get filled, the company will place a call to the State Department, and H1B visas will be issued to hire Indians to do the jobs. It turns out people in 3rd world countries don't mind moving to awful American cities. It is all relative I guess.

Of course Legg lied again about employee hiring in his division. I've only see domestic layoffs and hiring overseas. Perhaps he'll have another battle of the bands since that's all he seems to come up with to "try" to increase morale--and it's gotten old in a hurry.

Not sour grapes, good try though. Americans are the most generous people and nation on earth but the corporate globalist and politicians have hollowed out the interior of good paying jobs with offshoring, contracting and hiring too many foreign H1 visa employees. Hard to give to others when one sees so much suffering, dr-gs, homelessness and the failing our youth in education because culture issue have become more important in school than the 3 R’s and STEM. Time to take care of our own, can still be generous but need to live within our means, the national debt is out of control and they can only print money for so long. History shows that a country only has the coin of realm for a finite time.

Gotta love it when people think that America should be the welfare state for the world forever and that there is an unending supply of money. America became great because of democracy, rugged individualism, hard work and picking oneself up by their own bootstraps. Just a few hundred years ago they were a new nation, the roadmap is there for other nations, it’s for them to get off the te-t of America and create their own success. A lot of these countries have been getting yearly handouts since or before WWII which was nearly 80 years ago. Several of the freeloaders hate or are enemies of America too. Europe also needs to pay their fair share of the defense for their own countries too, they have had a free ride for far too long, they aren’t poor.

That's a lot of sour grapes.

America always lead by example. We sacrifice for the well being of others.

Americans had decades of wealth and high standard of living. It's time to bring up the poor in other countries by providing them with jobs and opportunities every American gets just being born in America.

Been here for 25 years and have seen many older outside techs have had various joint replacements, back surgeries, neck issues and other many soft tissue issues due to the physical nature of the work. Slips, trips and falls also contribute to many injuries because of the elements, ie.. rain, sleet, ice, snow, working in the dark, falling from heights, overheating and walking on all kinds of terrain. Never know where the next ankle breaker lurks from unseen holes, low visibility or any other debris hiding under the vegetation.

Techs also have to deal with all kinds of animals, plants, insects, traffic and irate customers. Been stung by bees, wasp, fire ants, bitten by dogs, crapped on by birds overhead, squirrels, birds and bats in aerials slices, stuck by all kinds of thorny plants and cut by saw and pampas grass that people love to plant around pedestals, NIDs and power poles. Nearly been bitten by venomous snakes, nearly hit by traffic more times than I care to count in the vehicle and outside while working. Have to deal with all kinds of nastiness in and under houses like animal fe--s, ur--e, sewage, dead animals, rats, spiders, roaches, any other animals and nastiness you can imagine.

So any of you managers think being a tech is easy work and can be easily replaced are uninformed. Hopefully you will get a work assignment that will open your eyes next year if there is a work stoppage. Of course you will only be required to do the bare minimum but maybe it will give you a very small sample of what it’s like to be a tech without the additional pressures of metrics, completing a daily workload, forced overtime and following all the rules.

I always find it hilarious that some people think the company can replace tens of thousands skilled and experienced technicians in a blink of an eye. They can barely find and keep enough unskilled workers and contractors to flag, dig, place buried cable, inner duct, line assist and put in anchors for down guys because of low pay, physical work, working in all kinds of weather/environments, intermittent work and little to no benefits. The master contractors hire subcontractors that then use a lot of illegals that can’t even speak english for digging and installing fiber/cable in neighborhoods.

There isn’t any public schools teaching the specific skills, rules and regulations for one of the multiple higher level technician titles. it’s been peer to peer training now for years and it takes years to gain the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to become a competent tech. Not forgetting how difficult it is due to the physical nature of the job while working in all kinds of weather, year in and year out. Not many people can do it on a regular basis, it takes a toll on the body which is why a lot of techs retire with (PMR) permanent medical restriction, especially those that were linemen, installers, repairmen and splicers.

Can’t offshore any of the physical assets in the network, will need boots on the ground, CO’s and Data Centers until, they can come up with a Star Trek communicator and tricorder.

Lots of politics here, but love the post that says can’t offshore climbing a pole. Can’t offshore stores either. The fact is, if we really do upgrade our fiber networks like Stankey says, it’s going to require hard working middle class Americans to do it, and for years.

There are No telecom's that aren't doing this.

Hard one to stop because both Dems and Reps get paid by the corporations to look the other way. There may be politicians out there who campaign on this issue, vote for them, but if they are incumbents look at their voting record first.

Stop crying about T and employees from different countries. I work many of them and they are smarter and work harder. I prefer to work with them. And they earn 1/3 or even 1/4 of US employee. But they were not so lucky that their grand grand parents were immigrants to US 100 years ago

America does have a legal path for immigrants to become American citizens to realize their dream and assist in MAGA. It does need to close the gaps for illegals and too many H1 Visa’s. It’s all the outsourcing of jobs to the lowest cost per employee, it’s what people have an issue with, while enriching the elite, bod’s and funds. Those who suffer is the middle class but then again the end game will result in a population who can’t afford the goods companies are selling due to the elimination of the middle class. Those at the top of the pyramid only care about their own greed, everyone and everything else be damned. History shows what will eventually happen.

America has taken care of the world, given out handouts and fought wars for so long that it has forgotten about our veterans and citizens between the coastal elite states and Washington. They need repatriation a lot of that money to educate and empower our own citizens who are struggling due to technology changes, factory shutdowns and offshoring. It has created enormous problems with homelessness, mental health, despondency, hopelessness, loneliness, addiction, deaths and su----e in our young adults and many people in general.

transnational global corporations could care less about sovereign countries and their borders even if it is where they started making their fortune.

anybody that thinks good things come from open borders is delusional. enter the country legally not illegally.

Do you think they care if support is from India or any other third world country? Everyone else is starting to do it, the weak follow, all about the $$. They say Pisz on you and your community, they live in their country club, gated with security guarded enclaves, doesn’t negatively affect their pay or benefits, only enhances them.

Spoken like a true globalist elite, fund manager or dividend holder, where does it stop? Worship at the altar of GREED ( Mammon) for the few while the majority suffers with the race to the bottom. Good plan for the elite until the majority goes Bolshevik on you!
