Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

More layoff continues...

Next Tuesday, June 25th will see a substantial number of people let go. In fact, many have already been told unofficially to plan for it. Especially, those who have been here for over 20 years. That being said, if you are let go because of "location" strategy, you should not care to apply again to WF for jobs in hub locations. The chances of you being hired back from a remote location is almost Zero. A friend of mine who was in SDI has applied to almost 35 jobs relevant to his skills, experience and in the same level or one level up and he did not get a single call from the recruiter or hiring manager. In fact, a recruiter unofficially told him that most hiring managers already have a candidate that they want to hire but just are following the HR policy to post the position and keep it for a specified number of days. I also heard that many JP Morgan folks are being hired and brought in. In all, it is depressing to hear this as many talented employees who got laid off just because of location ( without even giving an option to move to a hub) are not even being considered for relevant role. Even if one is offered a job, there is no certainty that you will not be laid off again after the move in next 6 months. The leadership in SDI are all so hollow and everything they say has no meaning or well being for th eemployees. All are getting a fat paycheck for Bsing to the employees. When you have folks who were in HR as leaders of Corporate Strategy, what can you expect from WF? Very sad state of affairs with no motivation and many looking for opportunities outside the bank.

Can confirm the above as an IT manager confirmed that June 25 will be big for displacements.

For sure, Hudson Yards doesn't need any kind of rational excuse to get rid of us all. Duh! 😂

"I overheard a scary conversation my manager was having. Apparently, a few of his ex-JPM managers have been convinced that the "old timers" at Wells do not work well with the I tech guys. This is the excuse to get more JPM employees in at all levels. Efficiency with offshoring is the objective."

  1. some locations are non core for some LOB and core for others. You should be applying to the core roles in the LOB in your current city then
  2. some locations are not core and Wells doesn’t want to pay to move you. Apply for the role in the core city and mention in your cover letter that you will pay for your own relocation. You should start to see more interviews.
  3. Most jobs at the bank are ones where a contract to keep you employed is not needed. That’s true of other employers in same field and even in different fields. So, buyer beware as you could get paid off from anywhere.
  4. hiring people outside the bank is disconcerting and they can’t see that’s why we are complaining on surveys about our dev and they respond by laying at our feet. So, they are tone deaf and will continue to do the same thing.

This actually makes sense. I’ve seen a lot of job postings taken down super early, with confirmed reasons being the req was cancelled. Assuming mgmt wants to see how things looks after the 25th.

June 25 is also a big day for RIF even if you are in a hub. There will be huge impacts. Some people think they are in a hub so they are safe but that’s not true.

Depends on group. My ex coworker that was laid off 2 months ago (was remote) is being rehired next month in a hub. I would keep applying.
