Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

2020 Layoffs - Huge!

So what really happened to all the catastrophic layoffs that were planned this year? I really didn't hear all that much and we certainly didn't get rid of 30% of the work force.

This board is nothing but wild rumors and not very useful. It only works to get people riled up.

The sad reality of these layoffs is that T doesn’t care about Covid during their guillotine act! It would have been nice if they had asked first who wants a severance package rather than just putting people in the unemployment lines when jobs are even more scarce due to the virus! I’m sure they would have a lot of takers if given the opportunity to leave, unfortunately the ones that wanted to stay are now gone!

Step 1: Layoff people who work from home.

Step 2: Move everyone who works in the office to work from home.

Step 3: See Step 1.

It's not good P.R. to layoff in a pandemic. Don't worry. They will get you next year.

Oh look ... it's Stinkhole or McElhole posting again! Hi guys!

My department got hit with layoffs to cover for the astonishing incompetence of senior leadership. We lost 28% of our group.

The layoffs were real, and they were also quite substantial. And they aren't over, because when the Q4 results come in showing another record loss of paying customers from DTV and horrible sub rates for ATTTV and HBOMax the arrogant scum in charge will have to compensate with another round of layoffs. It's really the only thing that T knows how to do nowadays.

offshoring of a ton of work to india and elsewhere has occurred in last 2 years at at&t, some of which is very likely in violation of customer contracts/regulations regarding restricted info. there will be a big and long lasting media wave sometime in the future about this issue of non-secure/offshoring of usa sensitive data. maybe it will be another tech or telecom company or healthcare company which ends up being the sacrificial lamb on this instead of at&t, or ma bell may end up indeed being the focal point when this issue blows up within usa. after all, lots of folks seem to love to hate ma bell anyway, even without 1 more reason to do so. when average joe american is hammered by the media and told his personal info/health care info/financial info is floating around in every corner of the world all over the place, put there deliberately by the very companies he pays each month, he aint' gonna be happy. the media will make sure of that. yes, cnn is media, but it ain't the only media.

The Technology Roadmap plan from Jeremy Legg allowed the a large majority of the layoffs that were to hit in 3Q to be avoided. This is a multi-year plan that the board approved - to allow additional investment in IT restructuring and retirement of many apps. The plan carries into 2023.

Not so sure with the huge investment in call centers and all the new hires. Apparently, T has some big ambitions that haven't been shared with the front line workers who seem to be kept totally in the dark! They only share their plans to reduce headcount, nothing more!

Not only did our jobs move to India but the work is being done in hotels. Why would legal allow customer sensitive information to be shared in a non secure environment? Perhaps Tucker Carlson would like to air this.

And my group had no job cuts what-so-ever and none expected in the near future! So, when they said every organization will be affected, they weren't telling the truth even though we have a lot of dead weight and could fertainly afford losing some head count!

My AVP group had a 40% cut and I know of another which had a ~55% cut. The peanut butter indeed was not spread evenly

Looking at the latest statement:
Current employees 234,630 9 months ago 251,840 down 6.8%
Fact is, we're not seeing 6.8% because some employees are now contractors for work outsourced to contractors.
The problem with AT&T isn't that they got rid of 30% of the employees, but that they didn't, and even the numbers that they show don't reflect the increased number/costs attributed to contractors.

Efficiency is the issue with AT&T.

OP you are truly an idi0t. You say you “didn’t hear much” of layoffs? Maybe you’re not important enough to tell anything to. Maybe you’re just a troll. But to those who were laid off, it probably wasn’t a pleasant experience, especially this year. And you say this board isn’t useful, so why are you posting on it? Go get yourself a life little man.

This board doesn't work to get people riled up , upper management does that all on their own. This board is the only outlet for release a lot of us have !

20% this year in my org. A voluntary offer in January, a follow the work offer in September (not everyone was willing to move), a voluntary offer for those not in the follow the work universe and involuntary separations.

Don't worry, unless you are unreplaceable (you are not) you will get your turn. It takes time for the "cost cutting" spotlight to get turned in your direction. It is a big company.

Maybe not 30% company wide, but it certainly was definitely 30% in my area, including my boss, my VP, SVP. It’s a big company.
