Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

CarePlus

Anyone else get slammed and charged for the useless at&t careplus? Supposedly covers experimental procedures not covered by our health care. Problem is if the experimental coverage isn't exactly in the spd, it ain't covered and if it is covered how would a layman know it? Best I can tell, Santone & the Stink were smoking cigars & drinking and one says to the other, hey, let's charge the suckers $1.00 per mo., we will never have to pay benefits and we can make bank of a few million extra per year selling this 5h1T.
I never signed up for it, didn't want it and first I knew I had the coverage was when the billing statement arrived. You can't cancel thru the att benefits website, nor the AON website. You wait for hours calling the benefits telephone number and then they aren't sure how to un-enroll you.

Useless, would not even pay for a new skin cancer test and treatment. Put me through to 5 different people, wrote letters for appeal etc. etc. no support and did not cover.

Yeah, do you know what they call the guy that graduated last in his medical school class?
Give Up?
Doctor.
I think I'll hire my plumber to give me a hair cut.
I mean really. I pick my Doc's carefully, I don't intend to use someone because he's on a list that takes a specific insurance.

Renig on my promised benefits, I'll take revenge to help the T go OOB!

OP... CarePlus is "useless"? For $1 a month it can save you thousands in uncovered medical expenses. Read up on it before making stupid comments.

A word of caution to those who never look at annual enrollment because they are not making any changes: Check it every year. I almost learned the hard way.

I used to never look at annual enrollment, but several years ago, I decided to look at it for the first time, and I am sure glad I did. It was the first year of the smoker surcharge, and the pre-checked default was "smoker"! If I had not noticed that, I would have been charged the smoker surcharge, even though I am not a smoker!

The way the company handled this was totally underhanded. Just like last year, I planned no changes in my healthcare provider. I did not log into the website, had no reason to. Received a few threatening messages that I owed money for company provided benefits. This made me wonder what I could possibly owe the company. Finally received a bill for $1 for Careplus, what a joke! Stankey throws away more money daily than it costs for $1 a month from all employees and retirees combined. What a ja----s!

To @dge, correct.
I never go into the "att benefits" website because att reniged and offer me no benefits.
I get my cell svc, internet, land line, TV from cheaper and better quality venders as the att concession price is valueless.
I do receive money in my HSA/HRA for healthcare and do login to AON on occasion.
However, I wanted to make no changes to my Supplement nor Rx plan so no need to login to AON.

To @iqb, you d-mb azzz.
I never signed up for careplus even if I was receiving it "free". The default should
have been "Now that we decided to charge for this useless benefit, if you want to continue with it you need to SIGNUP". I did not signup, I did not login into the benefits website as att offers no benefits, much less any that I want. So your assertion that I cannot be bothered is pure B.S.

To @vqw.
Finally received a call back and told them that I, my sister and 3 friends didn't sign up and that we don't want careplus and that we have no intention to pay. They removed it. So no, it's not too late.

To any and all reading this. Careplus is a SCAM.

The default on Careplus should have been unchecked. If anyone wanted Careplus they simply check the box and prepare to pay $1 per month.this is just another form of slam and cram just like they treat their customers. Things must be getting very desperate for T to start charging $1 per month for a product that was formerly no charge. Many employees and retirees do not even log into the website if they are not making changes from the year prior.

Seems like OP can't be bothered with details of being accountable for choices during open enrollment. You either select or deselect and then confirm...not complicated. CarePlus pays out for common things like hearing aids, laser cataracts, medivac Doulas. 12$ quite reasonable

For retired who needs hearing aid's it's a lifesaver and well worth the $12/year.

I think I heard a mike drop on the medivac and hearing aide payouts…

I think the most important part is that you define slammed! It's dirt cheap and it seems to be very helpful I've seen a lot of people getting rebates for hearing aids etc too.

It pays for medivac from foreign countries.
A guy in my garage fell ill in Riviera Maya, Mexico.
CP reimbursed him for his medivac flight to a hospital that could help him-and it was 6 figures.
$12 bucks a year?
And you complain?

I signed up for it. I always go to the benefits page in the fall, and don't take defaults. However, according to what I was reading, failure to sign up would dis-enroll one from CarePlus.

For $12/year, I think I'll reserve the option of a hail Mary if an illness should so indicate. If so, I'll show the doctor the plan and let that office decide if they can get coverage.

I signed up for auto withdraw. $1 a month, saving about $6 on stamps for 12 months. Another Bennie cut thanks to Stankey and Santone. They have got to have someone pay for their $200B debt for failed acquisitions. They run the company in the ditch and expect employees and retirees to pay the price. Talk about a couple of overpaid underachievers!

You were charged for it because you requested it during annual enrollment. In previous years, there was no charge, but beginning in 2021, it is $1.00 per month. If you don't want it, pay attention during annual enrollment next time, and cancel it. It is too late to cancel it for this year.

Care Plus paid $4K for my hearing aids.
Hardly a ripoff.

Care Plus, like all insurance, is useless unless you need it. I know first hand it came in handy when my mother in law had cancer. Medicare and Medicaid, although helpful, doesn’t cover everything. She still had UHC and Care Plus so very little out of pocket expected at the time. Of course that was several years ago.

Typical at&t.
The good news now is when your boss covers your appraisal and informs you of your 0% to .05% raise, they won't now inform you that they pay less because of the great benefits. You can find better and cheaper service with the competition, the life insurance is now worthless, no healthcare for retirees in 3 days, healthcare for active employees is paid by the employee with high deductibles, we get less vacation time now.
And the careplus you mention - correct. Useless.
