Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Please explain

I am a simple person and would like a simple explanation.
How does a record pay increase for the UAW help improve assembly quality, lower labor cost, and improve the value and appeal of Ford vehicles? How does 1 caustic UAW leader bully Ford into submission and this improves teamwork somehow? I cannot understand these equations.

@2ifp have you even been in a plant?
I have made a number of visits when I was on a black belt committee back in the day when we actually cared about improving quality. We went out to figure out why on certain day of the month build quality was poor. As it turned out that was the day of the month that patches were delivered to software/firmware controlling the robots. And it took a day to remove the bad patches (bureaucratic protocol and finger pointing).
Anyways I was in awe of how quickly and precisely the line workers installed components. No way I would put that kind of wear and tear on my body for $16 an hour. It is a tough job.

@2whv What they do in the plants is pretty much only worth 16 bucks an hour starting wage

@OP good grief.
You do realize that Ford has been unable to attract and retain new plant workers due to the pay and working conditions right? And that it takes a minimum of 4 hours of training in each spot on the line? So you have a new worker and they will be floating to 4 line positions (4x4)x2 = 32 hours (an existing workers time is needed to train the newbie ergo the x2. So if the new worker quits after 2 weeks you got 80-32=58 hours of labor for 80 hours of pay.

Now think about it, why would someone work for 16 dollars an hour (the starting wage) at a Ford plant for years on end (2-8 years) in TEMP status doing the same work as their coworkers who are being paid 30 dollars an hour? Starbucks and WholeFoods pay better and have better benefits.

Ford posts on Thursday who must work on Sat&Sun and expects workers to drop everything and be at work or else. Then Ford gets P-O when they have absentee-ism and high quit rates. Most of the younger workers have 2 or 3 jobs that they are juggling along with childcare and other family obligations. So of course people can’t drop everything just because FORD LEADERSHIP is so incompetent that they can’t plan out work more than two days in advance. EPIC fail of FORD LEADERSHIP. Oh they can schedule their own work so they can go race car driving but to heck with the plant workers.

Ford leadership is still stuck in 1950s mentality where they think they rule the world and everyone should kiss their feet.

@1dus+1phrkprB what annoys me is that so much money they save is then wasted on stupid projects that have no payback instead of making the vehicles more solid and durable. success is always in their grasp and they mess it up over and over by nickel and diming the parts.

It doesn't but it gives tards justification to spend $75k on a vehicle not assembled by "communists".... well... at least not Chinese communists...

The company walked over the hourly worker for 14 years to "save the company".

Several years of record profits meant that the UAW was going to want theirs. Blame Fain all you want, but this was long overdue.

I'm a salaried Ford employee, but right is right.

Don't be naive and assume every action taken has an altruistic reason, and we really are doing the right thing for everyone.

I've put a lot of years in. For me, this is purely transactional. I want the most payout I can possibly get and I don't plan on leaving a legacy at Ford for generations. I want max compensation, so I can retire on time or even early, spend more time with the family, and I'm sorry but it doesn't bother me if our generation is the last generation of Ford employees to make that happen. Eat the rich, and eat the company alive.
