So no real discussion on this? People want a union, but no real goals for a union to organize for and accomplish? I’m not surprised.

You’re drinking the Kool-aid. It must be delicious, because it’s distracting you from Charlie taking you from behind.

“ The new contract won employees a minimum wage of $20.50 per hour (and $28.60 in higher-cost areas like Oakland), a $1,000 signing bonus, and an increased employer match on employees’ 401(k)s, from 4% to 5%.”

This is what Beneficial negotiated with CBB. No guaranteed raises of x%. The minimum salary is about the same as Wells pays (think we are at $20/hr). We offer higher 401k match. So what are people expecting a union to negotiate for us? Please post realistic expectations.

Also note, Beneficial is a non-profit and was supportive of the union. It took 1.5 years to negotiate their first contract. Wells will be hostile towards a union, there is no doubt. With armies of lawyers, how long do you expect a first contract to take to be negotiated?

Would be nice to have a nice discussion on this, but i fully expect it to not go that way.

The offshoring and layoffs are happening either way, but with a union, worst case scenario...we'd get more pay while we wait our turn on the chopping block? Perish the thought.

And the "unions donate to politicians" "argument" is genuinely deranged. You know who else is? Wells Fargo. You think they're doing that so that the law forces them to treat you better? Or be fairer to the customers?

In the absence of a union, your healthcare, your family's, your money, your life is in their rotten hands, and the employees have no say. How's that working out for you? Look around on this board, are people happy with the company culture? Do you think Charlie is gonna look out for you with another generous 2% raise next year?...while the board takes their extra money that could go to your benefits or pay, and gives themselves raises and stock buybacks so their pay is worth even more.

And anyone can one up your nonsense with corrupt unions.

Unions are trash and do nothing for the worker but add yet another layer of corruption and loss of pay. Unions are always turned into petty kingdoms that give money to politicians and NOT for the benefit of union members. It's the epitome of micromanagement under the illusion of "fighting for the little guy." It's nothing of the sort.

Not to mention the fact that all those pensions are unsustainable and end up destroying companies forcing companies to 'cut the fat' (offshore) because people are paid more than they're worth or the job is worth.

Unions are pushed by people who want to be guaranteed pay no matter how poorly a company is performing, how poorly employees work, and want to be taken care of cradle to grave like a child.

Really? How are you being rewarded for your work? And what makes you think you are being rewarded more than the so-called “ paper pushing Sally’s” of Wells Fargo? It’s all an illusion. The longer you work here, the more you’ll figure it out: the glad-handing do-nothing yes-man paper-pushing Sally’s are who they love the most here. They are who get rewarded while you’re doing all the work.

You are not employed by a company where fairness, doing the right thing, best man gets the job, hard work is honored, or any other such ethical standards apply.

No thanks. I like being rewarded versus paper pushing sally who complains all year and works 30 hour weeks. Unions mean participation trophies which I am sure do nothing sally would love. Pay the talent and not every slacker

Not all unions give pensions. Look at what the better banks union managed to secure after a year for their initial charter. “Better pay for the lowest wage earners”. No pension, no secure jobs, just better pay for the tellers.

These are scare tactics. Everyone has equal protection in a union. And one guy is embarrassed to work for a union, but not embarrassed to work for a scandal -plagued company with a CEO who makes 500 to 600 x more money than him?

My family has worked for unions for years. Unions are not perfect, but they they are all living happily off of multiple pensions and with most of their healthcare expenses covered. WFC makes money off the employee 401ks, gives a small pittance of a % of your salary in company stock (which we’re all losing money on) and then kicks you to the curb with zero benefits. My friend just put in 20 years in the teacher’s union, retired with full benefits at 45 and now is becoming a firefighter with the goal of working another 20 years for the second pension.

To each their own. But WFC is corrupt, inept, in trouble with the Feds, known for abusing their employees and their customers, and Charlie and Friends are laughing hysterically all the way to the bank. Anything you can say bad about the unions, I can one up you with WFC dirt.

Unions will not stop offshoring efforts.

However the change will be that layoffs will be based on seniority. So all those boomers you hate because they’ve been around forever would be the protected class.

Be careful what you wish for…

I would be too embarrassed to tell anyone I work for a bank and part of a union. Would be the kiss of death for a finance career

I would support a union just to shove it down Charlie’s pompous throat. I want whatever Charlie does not want. If it makes him miserable, makes him look bad publicly, makes his job more difficult, embarrasses him, cuts in to his easy money - I want exactly that.

I want nothing to do with a union. Liberals don’t want to hear reasons why and will be commencing with insults shortly because I don’t need them telling me how to think.

No need to join a union guys!!! The CEO who is laying you off, outsourcing your jobs, and deliberately making you miserable enough so you quit without severance is definitely looking out for you!

My father was blue collar and worked in a Union. I remember him telling me multi times he hated Unions and said they just stole a chunk of his paycheck and didn't do much of anything for him. He was incredibly hardworking and honest so I'll take his word for it.

Yeah actually, there were a couple stories about it recently: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2022/jun/02/wells-fargo-workers-union

I've had some conversations with coworkers about it who are pretty interested, printed out some flyers and left them in the break room etc.

The WF shills are terrified of it and will flood this post with tall tales and scaremongering, but that only shows how threatened Charlie and his trolls are.
