So we have the day after Thanksgiving as a holiday and it's in our union book and contract. How is the company enforcing us to work on a day that's been scheduled as a holiday all year until literally yesterday

When having to “work” that day, nothing is usually happening. It is quiet. So no one feels sorry for you.
Union is totally looking out for you.
“The needs of service “ clause, means the Company can force folks to work the holiday.
We have always worked that day ....
It never was a guaranteed holiday, they just did it to be nice because management wanted off.
I’ve worked the day after Thanksgiving every year, stop being a little b**ch.
Workload is light and the money is worth it.
Legacy T used to have that day about 15-20 years ago. Bellsouth has never had it that I know of, although everybody usually takes a vacation day that day.
Just tell your manager, as much as you'd like to work it, you already have plans for that day. They'll put it up for sale. If they don't, file a grievance.
In the 70's the union traded Columbus day holiday off for the day after Thanksgiving. It was a good deal IMO. I've been forced to work many, many holidays as a tech. And was able to retire at 56. You want 8 hrs? I'll give you 12 hrs.
Profit.
Day after has not been a company holiday for Leg-T for years. Some union locals designate it has a holiday and you lose a floating holiday. For those who worked it (24x7 center) got time and a half.
Thats a shame. I was planning on upgrading my wireless plan and buy 3 new iPhone 13 ProMax that day. Canceled.
Forced OT is nothing new. Been that way at times for 40 years.
It's almost like a job or something. OH THE HORRA!!!!
Weak.
be lucky you have a job and be appreciative what this company has provide you and your family.
@1ecn+1dCaWnB8 Ha. The poor welfare program the company was waiting for is slowing losing it's steam. No welfare handouts for T, maybe use your own money this time huh? 2022 we're going RED, don't care how much money the stank throws at the communists.
Oops sorry Virginia and New Jersey turned red!
are people really that dense that they come and complain here instead of go to their union rep? SMH
Talk to your union. They represent you.
Our product is 24 hours per day, seven days a week, 365(or 366) days per year. Wow, how new are you?? Never mind, your post already let us all know...
Yawn!! I'll be hunting watching my IRA make dollar bills. Hiccup!
Moving forward, you can use an unlimited vacation day if T moved to that model!
If I worked day after (or Thanksgiving itself) I got holiday worked or overtime pay which was time and one-half, on top of getting paid for the day itself. I didn't work it for free. So the day was either a day off at regular pay, or a day worked at regular pay + time and one-half.
Because of the pay arrangement, company usually had volunteers.
It was never a holiday in my 28 years of service. Always a PTO you had to cover your turn.
Not sure what region or what company division you are with but … for us we do a holiday bid . That way, you can bid for the day to work since we still are open. Check all the fine print and make sure it’s not any in the book.
It's absolutely ridiculous. They take away a day this year but give us a BLM holiday next year. For AT&T it's always what's in it for them
