Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Manager role during the layoffs...

Does your manager need to sign an NDA or anything prior to letting people go? Does the manager actually do the firing or is it your skip level manager?

Thanks in advance and best wishes to you all.

Assuming it's the same as last time round (our area does not appear to be impacted by this wave (or I guess maybe our area is gone...will let you all know tomorrow)), the NDA covers the process was at the LL5+ level, and anyone who signed it was part of the decision making process around the who. Our LL3 handled the 'exit conversations', but then they retired in November anyway.

In August, my LL4 let our GSRs go. He received the names from the LL2 a week prior. He tried to negotiate and swap, as one was a top performer, but the LL2 said no.

Was SIRPed in 2022, and the meeting notice and discussion was with the LL4 of the area, so I agree with most that it usually falls on the director to tell the people. Not sure if they make the actual decision, but it seems the last three or four layoffs the directors were responsible for the meetings telling people they were shitcanned.

My new director did the deed in 2019, there was a fat lady security guard posted in the hall outside my manager's office

The managers role is to hide while it all goes down. At least that is what Chickensh-ts have done in the past. The LL5 and the favored LL6s all in all day off-site meetings (cough at the bar cough).
