Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Does Nike Blacklist?

Two yrs ago, massive layoff in Hilversum EHQ. Ever since i’m not able to get ANY job! Was part of reorg, worked for a dreadful manager who doesn’t do sh-t all day except showing herself off. Ever since i’ve applied for jobs left and right, sometimes responded to two ads a day…had in person conversations at companies in sports branche, some totally different branche. Went most of the time to second round of application and after that…nothing, silence…no reply to my requests on status on the application…zero. So now 2 years later, hundreds of applications, and around 30 face-to-face interviews and second interviews…nothing, but all after they probably checked with Hilversum for ‘information’. I’ve not been fired because I did something incorrect, but because of the reorg. And my former manager, threw me under the bus. I suspect there is a blacklist…. Anybody who was ex-HR to confirm? If so, I need to sue them. Thanks!

It's more like callous indifference rather than purposeful black listing- they're not that intelligent.

It’s clear you lack self awareness.

yes we have a blacklist (“eligible for rehire” check box in the system) but you’re not on the blacklist if you’re getting interviews. We wouldn’t even interview you if not eligible for rehire.

@1eko that hasn’t been my experience. When I was interviewing before I left Nike employers were impressed with my experience and from where I obtained it. Maybe it’s a highly individual thing?

Nike workers do not have a good reputation outside of Nike. Globally the company is viewed as a joke. Make sure you are being realistic in the positions you are applying for.

Your skill set in your role at Nike does not translate to same or more senior roles at other companies.

Yes, I'm a former black badge.

I don't think Nike cares enough to maintain and distribute a blacklist. That would not work well for them if it ever got out that they were. Hang in there, use your network, and be patient. The sooner you get out of the mindset that Nike is out to get you after your employment, the better.

I have many fond memories of EHQ (I visited many times) and loved interacting with the folks there. Less drama, and more authenticity than my experience in WHQ.

Good luck!

Without knowing you it’s difficult for anyone here to say why you aren’t getting job offers. Could be your skill set or work specialty, could be your age, could be your CV, or could just be you in general. No one here knows. I doubt it’s a blacklist. If such a thing existed it would be very difficult to keep it a secret. After enough time too many people would know about it and someone would talk.

Working at Nike is usually helpful in terms of finding a new job. It’s likely there is one or more circumstances unique to you that’s preventing you from finding work.

HR doesn’t have their sh-t together enough to do the simple parts of their job. There’s no way they have the capability to maintain a blacklist.

Not possible, not allowed. Just ensure your reference contacts are folks you are good with. What domain or org were you part of? ex Nike usually do good on recruiters shortliats
