Thread regarding Verizon Wireless layoffs

Telesales fallout

Since transferring from the retail stores to telesales 22 reps have left the job. This has been over the last 60 days and most were still going through training. I wonder why they left ?

It is true that telesales is offering a lot of overtime. It is also true Verizon did over hire reps for telesales. It is still very busy and things are backed up for a few different reasons. iPhone launch is the main reason though. Things will significantly slow down In January because all the new hires will be done with training. I have a friend who does telesales and averaged 50 hours a week last month and made 1300 in commission. No thanks .

@1flr+17Rzp3v6 I work in HR and can tell you that Verizon is not challenging any unemployment claims unless someone was fired for stealing or fraud. Also when an employee puts in a claim they always put in a valid enough reason on why they quit. Even before Covid Verizon was very lax about getting unemployment claims denied but now virtually everything is approved,

Two reps in my store have interviews next week for telesales and they are giving out overtime like crazy so don’t believe when people on here say they are over staffed. Apply apply apply

@1aof+17Rzp3v6 if you quit a job you can not collect in most states. you have to be laid off or fired to collect.

Telesales is the real deal. It’s busy, constant and the day goes by quick. If you are lazy it’s definitely not for you. As for quota, this month is a softball. If you don’t come away with a $4000 check with all the overtime they are throwing at you then you chose to leave money on the table. Is it for everyone, no way. You are working your whole shift. If you want to make money it’s definitely the place to be within the company.

You can add me to that list. I gave my resignation last week. My decision to apply for telesales mainly came because of better opportunity to earn more money and get out of the retail store. The retail stores have dramatically changed and have severely reduced head count. The downtime is nothing like pre covid. I decided against staying with the company and telesales because many things changed once I accepted the job. I was originally told my salary would not change and it did. I was also told what my schedule would start at for the first 6 months and that changed. After talking with several reps from telesales I confirmed that the commission opportunity was not as advertised. I decided to leave and collect unemployment and take my time looking for a new job. It will be great to not have to work the holiday season.

Retail is easy with a lot of relaxed downtime like the other comment states. Retail sales doesn’t translate other than soft skills dealing with customers. Constant calls and being at a desk will be hard for many transitioned reps.

Honestly telesales is not for everyone. The reps that applied probaly thought it was going to be like the store, where there is downtime in between customers, 1 rep helps 1 customer and you don’t do anything for about 30 minutes until it’s your turn. However in telesales it’s a total different gig. There is no downtime it’s constant calls . No breaks in between customers like store . Im assuming these store reps applied thinking there would be “downtime” like retail 30 minute breaks between customers, but that’s not the cases . Also quota from what I hear it’s super high (200 boxes) 15k sales quota. This is just my personal opinion .
