I also got impacted. The director had no emotions at all. Ba----d called me and just handed over me the package and not even a word of thanks for working for 10+ years

I’m sorry that was your experience. I’ve sat on both sides of the table and they both su-k. Today I was on the receiving end and got notice. I can’t judge the person delivering the news to me today, it’s a hard conversation. I’m strangely relieved and feel empowered. Cisco has given me an opportunity and I’m excited to see what’s next with a good month + to take a long overdue break….because they’re paying me. I hope anyone impacted finds peace and empowerment.
"Oh eff you. Stop looking for sympathy like you’re the victim. You could have fought better to not lose your people."
" Just following orders. Heard that before."
Welcome to corporate America.
Enjoy your stay!

@1fwg+1nEYi1vJ Oh eff you. Stop looking for sympathy like you’re the victim. You could have fought better to not lose your people. You still get your paycheck.
"I see leaders at Cisco as narcissists with charismatic charm & no empathy. It's a personality disorder that is ideal for the corporate world. A kind leader would find ways to avoid laying off people with a mortgage & family. "
It's not a personality disorder. We are given a script and told not to deviate from it as it serves as a legal notification. It is to be delivered clearly, concisely and as much as possible, without emotion.
Maybe that is a bad approach but look around at other companies. Would you prefer to hear it on a group Webex? Would you prefer a "Dear Employee" email from HR?
Sadly I've had to deliver this message multiple times today and each was heartbreaking for me. I've worked closely with these people for years. People with young families. People with mortgages. People with career aspirations. If you think this is easy or fun you couldn't be more wrong. It is by far the worst part of the job.
Me and my poor wife expecting a baby anytime now :-( I am devastated beyond words. I have not prayed for a long time
I was LR’d in the last round and I understand how you are feeling. The first few days are awful. It will get better. My advice, take it a day at a time. Read your package thoroughly. Utilize the Randstad services, leverage your network of contacts. Most importantly don’t let Cisco get the best of you. You will be ok.

Then companies would never lay off anybody because married AND single people have mortgages and families, even if their family members don't live with them.
If you meant that "married people with kids" shouldn't be laid off, welcome to America. This is capitalism, it's about what it's best for the company and not what's best for you. In this case, as it should be - imagine thinking that single people should be singled out because they don't have kids or spouses to support. Entitlement at its best.
I'm grateful for my empathetic leader and we're already planning to do some projects outside of work (nothing that conflicts with Cisco). I'm very sorry for those who were treated in a callous way. Also, another person I know who got laid told me her boss CRIED the whole time. So, I'm glad to know that the lack of compassion isn't universal.
"They are having to do this with a lot of people so they probably think the best way is to do it without emotion."
You haven't spent enough time with them for their mask to come off. To layoff thousands of families when the company is making billions in profits takes a predator. Especially when they are obtaining an enormous paycheck.
Not all predators look like Ted Kaczynski, some wear jeans and have children. Some even volunteer at food banks.
@vqu+1nEYi1vJ I’ll strongly got disagree. Yes they are narcissistic and lack empathy. But they are not charismatic charmers. Have you seen CR or any of the others speak? It’s embarrassing. Like a kid at his first toast masters.
"You don't think this affects them at all having to do this."
I know for a fact layoffs don't impact them at all. They aren't wired the same mentally. People are inconsequential and disposable tools for them.
When I was impacted, my leader was very empathetic. They couldn’t have handled it any better. But at the same time, I can somewhat understand them being emotionless. They are having to do this with a lot of people so they probably think the best way is to do it without emotion. But yes, they can at least say thank you for your service and say a few kind words.

The company generates plenty of money to never have to conduct layoffs. Maybe the ELT doesn't need to make $26 million a year without creating any value? Normalizing laying off thousands of people is a rather concept in American culture.
@isl+1nEYi1vJ
Come on dude. I would expect a good leader to at least have some empathy, I don’t think that’s too much to ask. (I’m not OP).
I dont understand why they need to display emotions. As it is there given a script to follow for a variety of reasons. There is abosolutly zero reason to dump emotions and the fact that you write this like this tells me 1. You don't see leaders as human and 2. You don't think this affects them at all having to do this. Doing this is better when emotions are at a minimum no matter what you or anyone else thinks. As far as 'family' well you can't expect them to not use the family angle and then get mad when they don't. You know the say never to get into business with family precisely for the reason of emotions. Many a business died because of family ties.
That's shameful... Cisco doesn't do a good job of recruiting and developing people leader (despite everyone claiming to be one on social media). While LRs cannot be avoided, they should be conducted with dignity and compassion. I scoff every time I hear the word "family" getting tossed around because that's not how anyone would treat their family member.
