Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How to know if you are making too much for your level?

Im asking because I want to know if I might be targeted because I am at the top of the range

You have a "critical skills" as long as they need you. Once they are done, you are done. Plan accordingly.

@1gsr+1ns3CfLZ. Your critical skills were needed temporarily, so they took steps to make sure you didn't leave. Perhaps an important deliverable was approaching. Once the deliverable is completed, or someone else is on board, either locally or lcc, your skills aren't critical.

Ford seems to be very fickle about what they consider critical skills. The year before I was let go I was also given a nice (unexpected) mid year salary increase because I had “critical” skills and they were concerned that I was a flight risk. I had never said anything to indicate I was a flight risk but in hindsight I should have flown the coop.

I didn’t ask for a raise. But they gave me nice one because they said I had a “critical skill”. I agree with the last part.
So you can understand why I was so surprised to find out that my “critical skill” that earned me a raise was no longer needed by the company.

Here is how you will know:

You will be working with engineers who dial in remotely from Brazil, Mexico, India, maybe China. Any or all. Your ‘People leader’ will ask you how it’s going. You will tell them what great teammates they are. And how they are learning so well.
Then in September you will joins the ranks of former Ford employee.

Good luck. Read the article on the new engineering center in Mexico.

The goal seems to be to keep everyone in the middle of the pay grade. Look up the pay ranges for your salary grade and compare that to your salary.
