Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Advice for the close to retirement people.

Get ready to be let go at any time by paying off everything you owe. I have and feel free. Get a financial planner and have everything ready to transfer when it comes. Once your are over 55 and 15 years in relax and take it day by day anything over 55 is a blessing. Network with the vendors and competitors in your field so you can transition to a different company or field easily. Learn all the skills you can exxon so you can use this for your next job. When you have had enough and the sh t is to much find another job and just quit or retire. This is my plan for sure so be prepared and it will be so much better.

Good advice as well, but doesn’t work at EM. Here young people think they already know everything, they’re completely unable and unwilling to learn. We hire people adequate for the new EM.

Great advice, but add this advice as well: Do not train young people. Make like you are doing it but do not do it.

Good advise from one who has obviously been there. Thanks for sharing.

I worked the O&G industry for +35 years retiring from EM at age 65. I used the recommendations outlined by the OP. It works.

The smart ones will understand what the OP has written. The losers won’t. That’s life. Honestly, who really cares. I got mine. Now, go get yours if you can. Ha!

Age-ism for sure. 1) Young man (neighbor) said his IT company will not hire anyone over 35 years of age. 2) 55-year-old nurse co-worker furloughed and laid off during covid FINALLY got face-to-face interview with major hospital/clinic system in Minneapolis after taking retail employment. Last thing interviewer said to her was: "You realize you're competing against new college graduates, don't you?" Needless to say, she didn't get that opportunity.

This is simply Age-ism at its worst.
Though it might be true, all this |sm-j|sm tends to get one down.

Which is more than the Texans will get this season.
So yeah.
