Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Sunday work

Cable tech in southwest . We have 4people scheduled on Sundays with zero jobs. We sit all day getting time and a half. Has been this way for a long time .
Management knows but does NOTHING about it . You can’t even take vacation on the weekend because it’s blocked in ease.
Total waste of money just to show their empowerment.

  • I will pick up jobs on Monday that were called in days ago .*

Must be a different office. because either there isn't anything to do on Sundays ("zero jobs" per OP), or there are jobs sitting there on Monday from last week. Both cannot exist in the same location. And if it is the same location, there needs to be an escalation if someone is lying about there being no work so they can sit doing nothing for the OT, and pi-s off the OP who doesn't want the OT and apparently doesn't have the seniority to verify if there truly are or are not tickets to work.

Yes we care a hole . Would rather be at home with family. This company is just wasting money. I will pick up jobs on Monday that were called in days ago . So stay in your own lane d-mb a-s .

This needs repeating because there exists some individuals that have somehow maintained employment with AT&T and that employment should have been terminated many months ago. Force to load manager, we are looking at you.

If nobody responds to callouts than this is what you get. Shouldn't come as a surprise.

The only "probably" is that you know not what you are talking about.

He ain't wrong about the grievance if they ask me to do one thing that's not in my job description. Inventory sh-t? Clean? Reorganize supplies? Work that the M-F guys were supposed to work? Nope. I will absolutely file a grievance.

I call that Monday through Friday. Sitting, nothing to do and watching movies on my phone.

The schedule is not contractual mandated to have weekend coverage and could be changed, we also have techs scheduled on weekends because no one was taking callouts for damages or outages. Some groups just use a standby tech(s) in case of an event that would require someone immediately with the required skills and knowledge to handle it or coordinate a response. 4 techs out of one group seems a bit much though.

It’s not necessarily due to a lack of work but as a precaution for network reliability, to quickly mitigate any issues, like firemen at the station house waiting on a call.

The Sunday 4 on schedule is probably mandated by a bargained contract. They know there's no work, but they can't not schedule you or there will be a grievance. And they can't ask you to do things like "clean" because that's out of the scope of the job description, so to ask you to do so would result in a grievance.

The only "probably" is that you know not what you are talking about. "Needs of the business" would dictate the force to load model. No work on certain days would suggest less employees on the clock on those days. This is what a well run company would do. This is AT&T though.
God Bless AT&T and their incompetence, that 1 1/2 pay for making sure no one steals my company truck while I sit in it waiting for my shift to end. Seniority allows me to have this shift. Life is good.

Which is exactly why 30% of you will be surplussed after a contract is reached.

This is exactly why we won't be taking call-outs or volunteering for disaster recovery. #letitfail

The last time I checked, being scheduled on a Sat or Sunday means you get a day off during the week. Same for all regions. If you’re scheduled today, then you have a day off M-F of the current week. Same for Sat scheduling. Sounds like what you’re really upset about is the circumstance of being scheduled during the weekend and you just don’t like it. Cry us a river.

If you don’t want to work on the weekend, then go find a job where you only work M-F. JFC, you can’t make up this union crybaby stuff. Grow up.

The last response is probably closer to the truth than any other. And honestly, are you really on here complaining about making 1.5 pay on Sunday for sitting around doing nothing?? Don’t pretend like u or any of your peers in the union actually care about the company or have any say in how it’s run at any level. Stick to your lane.

The fact you don't have work shows how ineffective the duty manager is at keeping you busy. There's ALWAYS something to do.

I bet your 3rd line came from mobility and has no clue about telco work . Management doesn’t even care about customers, just making their numbers. They ran off all the good managers with core experience and promoted premises techs. See what you got a bunch of yes men butt kissers.
