Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Use the Nike Speakup Portal to Speak Up

This level of prolonged uncertainty is becoming a mental health risk and making nike an unsafe workplace. Can we all just use the Nike Speakup Portal, anonymously if you'd like, to speak up? Nike would HAVE TO take action if enough people pose their concerns.

@3yur I don't think I would have an issue finding a job right now and not have to move my family. I continue to learn skills and gain experience that is in demand. I can see if you feel you can't get another job except your nike job how you would feel so angry....my guess is the anger should be at yourself instead of nike for putting yourself into that situation.

Always keep your resume updated and your skills in demand and you will have freedom to enjoy life.

@Together in Unionism: you sound like one of those people who spends their evenings in Portland for the last 100+ days supporting civil unrest, not to be confused with the protesting.

The new CEO is cleaning up after the old CEO who allowed the creation of layers upon layers of middle management, especially VP's and Sr. Directors. Corporations make money, pay people and pay taxes. If said corporation doesn't have a healthy gross margin then all that goes away as with your way of life.

Your current CEO was\is an actual technology Executive, rather than the fashion of the month poser that Nike has often tried to paa off as a Tech team.

At ServiceNow, they had great technology, if you think what ever comment portal you are using at Nike, can not immediately track you right back, and fire you, is a fantasy.

Since this Board is apparently a forum for a Countervailing view, of what is officially peddled at Nike as a great culture, you can post away. But this forum has taken down even mildly critical posts before, and has been served with legal threats and strange external hack attempts, so be careful with defaming posts or IP disclosures.

You see this evidenced in the Nike HR\PR postings here, the soft admonitions to focus on what you have now, stop or use less anger in posting, be thankful you have anything.

Look up Cognitive Dissonance.

Where is Jeanne Jackson when she is needed most. Bring her back to the Board.

How do you know the speak up portal isn’t anonymous? It’s an externally Vendor run site - if you use a non-Nike device and don’t list your name how do they trace it back to you?

@1stu - I’ve been around a while, and no, I am most certainly not with HR.

I will however confirm that there are several VPs that genuinely do care about their teams. I see it daily, first hand. So just putting that out there.

In my experience, the best VPs we have are the ones who have worked themselves up through the Nike ranks...

Your comment shows the lack of education and self control.

If you don’t understand strikes or unions you should educate yourself. Also good luck trying to find a job in this market during these times. Without having to move your entire family.

I don’t work at Nike but I see the stress this potential layoff has set with my wife. It has really affected our family as I’m sure has affected others. You all need to stand up and fight back. If it’s not money why they are firing people. You guys need to fight against that new CEO and get his a– fired. Holiday season is coming that’s a lot of money for them. Rally up all your troops and go on strike. Stop working. All of you. Every single person STOP and they won’t be able to accomplish anything without you. Don’t make yourselves slaves to the Swoosh or stress make the swooosh work for you. Establish your own voice and leadership. Start a fight back to that new piece of sh– CEO.

First, this is time to exercise compassion for friends and colleagues who are really suffering because of the stress. Not only from pandemic and other things but also walking around and feeling like you have a target on your back. Not knowing when the nightmare will end. It’s especially painful for those with dependents or have Contributed sweat, blood and tears to the success of the swoosh. Speaking up helps, suffering in silence doesn’t. Learning about others in with similar experiences reduces the isolation aspect of this treatment. It’s ok to love the swoosh but also to acknowledge when things aren’t done right,....no need to minimize the pain of those feeling mental anguish or no longer in a healthy work place environment. You can say quit or find other options - it takes time and not that easy to do (empathy comes to mind)

If you submit anonymous in the speak up portal they won't respond to you. They will just say we received your message and if you want a response...give us your name. Sounds like they really value your anonymous opinion.

@1hit, from what I have heard, end of January, 2021- when Tech is expected to be restructured with some layoffs - should mark the end of this whole thing. They are waiting because of the work for the holiday season is looming and to give the new VPs time to determine how to restructure tech.

Does anyone know an end date? I mean at what point can those remaining breath a sigh of relief?

I say it is worth a try to generate some type of interest, response, or simple acknowledgment. Good idea and I'll do my part.
