Do you know when RA will happen in the US? Are we safe until next year?

"... IBM seems to try an do major RA/layoffs the Thursday before a major holiday in whatever country the layoff is happening. ..."

In the US, to my eyes, it looks like "RA Thursday" is the Thursday 4 weeks after the Earnings Report.

I think @1uos+17Izuvnp is right. IBM seems to try an do major RA/layoffs the Thursday before a major holiday in whatever country the layoff is happening. The last major layoff happened the Thursday before Memorial day weekend. For the US Thursday Nov 19th is the Thursday before the week of Thanksgiving, which a lot of people take the whole week off.

"...( look for it on IBM intranet EWC)..."

Wow... why is that document even on the IBM Intranet?

Europe will be hit hard ( look for it on IBM intranet EWC), Germany alone already 2300. Double digit decline on average in an European country.

My best guess is "RA Thursday" will be 11-29-2020.

But other conjecture says that layoffs will wait into 2021, as the NewCo thing gets sorted out.

Anyone know anything interesting?

Hearing that EMEA will have cuts totalling 20%
50% in GTS, 15% in Cloud and Cognitive Software - blended to the 20% above
Across ALL disciplines - tech sales, sales, marketing, development etc.
Countries identified - Netherlands, Germany, UKI, Italy, Spain, Nordics. Basically anywhere that requires consultation period type process.
Rumor is 3000+ people

Job safe at IBM? Hell no. Never.

Who in their right mind would want to stay in GTS/NewCo? That place is a disaster. Extremely poor leadership, lack of compelling offerings, marketshare tanking. Get out now folks.

Have no hope in front of people holding a cross in one hand (the pilgrim fathers are now lost) and an ax or sickle with the other, it is pragmatic, yeap. And nothwithstanding our studies, sweat and hopes , like homeless lets look for another job, as long as we'll have the energy. Change things and play rules is too late now. God bless this America and we kiss where IBM passes. Spit. Sorry.

I've been with IBM 38 years, and I can't remember any US layoffs in November or December. It is too late to help in 2020, and I doubt if their 2021 outlook is very clear at all. However, sometime in 1Q'21 there will be a lot more clarity, and at that point all bets are off.
But, really, like someone posted earlier, always be ready for some form of a job action. If it isn't a layoff, it could still be a spinoff or site closing. Those can happen anytime.

The RA is always in action ... in a company out of the market (for profits given its inability to value its people and instill the peace that would make this value emerge) only good at making fear its layoffs for its slaves and their families .. what a perversion ... I'm sorry for us, and they .. shame and pain for every time it has happened and will happen .. Amen

@1hjm+17Izuvnp,
I have no knowledge of any teams or divisions being targeted for redundancies.
Everyone is on tenterhooks so my prediction was in bad taste. I do apologize.

@1oql+17Izuvnp - Do you mean that GTS folks supporting IBM IGA/IGF or other internal account are targets?

"RA Thursday" would be 11-19-2020 this time around, true?

So has anyone been asked for names?

I am predicting a massive purge of useless IBM bloat teams before transition.
Especially on the IBM internal side since NewCo will NOT be IBM.

Left IBM UK of my own accord last Summer - best thing I've done. Had 8 years with the Big Blue but it was definitely the right time to leave. Of course that was then, this is now and with COVID I wouldn't necessarily be brave enough to make the same decision given the upside down nature of the world right now. However there is still life out there in the market, I was fortunate enough to land a good role so I'd say back yourself if you are wavering. Easy for me to say now but in the same way that for anyone who leaves IBM they are soon forgotten, it goes both ways, its also easy to forget IBM and to move on in every sense. One day whoever you are you will either get cut or will be so hacked off you will look to leave - so if you can, go now, be bold! IBM really are not worth the emotional effort of trying to survive each week, month etc.

Due to the poor laws protecting employees within profitable companies and the small amount of $ legally they have to pay the UK employees upon separation..it gets hit every time compared to the rest of Europe, I believe there will be more cuts unfortunately....historically they would stay away from Germany due to the unionization and high separation costs but I think they have bled the UK so many times over the past years they have to look elsewhere.

In double digit growth of what? Revenue? Because that is what both AK and JW said... they want to grow revenue... If that is the case, how laying off people will help grow the revenue?

When you get to work on Monday , assume you have 30 - 90 days left.
Repeat this every day until you get the formal boot.
Keep your resume updated and have at least 6 months living expenses in the bank.

IBM retired. Survived the '93 East Fishkill blood bath and multiple 'actions' until I grew tired of the bull and left in 2019.

Don’t you remember in the Jim Whitehurst AMA right after the spring layoffs, he said to expect layoffs to continue until we are in double digit growth?
