Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Getting past this current state

After a few months attempting to find another company and locale to apply my science/engineering skills - I'm still looking. Multiple interviews with a couple of smaller outfits have not resulted.
It is truly a hard time in general, but I'm convinced the EM tattoo on my forehead is a factor.

This is not to discourage others. I'm going to continue this quest, knowing that the company you've worked for and the culture you're assumed to have acquired is not you.
Not in your professional interest or capabilities.
A pothole, yes, but at least in my case only a 6 year pothole.

All in all - the most positive body english (that is, Zoom english) I've seen is when I've mentioned the desire to leave a global conglomerated commodity monster which deprecates actual science, and engineering for that matter.
That got an appreciative nod and hand to the chin from almost every potential decider.

That - and getting out of Texas. That received firm nods and even a tear in the eye once.

So - keep the confidence high!

I'll update once something happens - but I'm separating by any means necessary.
As another poster said.
Even a pip will do.

@1hsz+1aMiMTni if OP's post is indicative on how they're speaking in interviews, OP does not in fact "got this".

That appreciative nod is probably the exact moment when they decided that you were not getting the job… Respectfully, I don’t think the market is the problem here. I think you need to do some mock interviews and evaluate your approach.

You should not speak negatively of an employer while interviewing regardless of how bad they are. Your potential employer will be put off and worry that you would bad mouth them given the chance.

Whereabouts are you applying and at what point in the interview process are you failing (e.g. technical, behavioral, whiteboarding, etc) ? You need to keep revising your strategy, you got this.

No doubt tears of laughter that anyone could be so inept at interviewing. Yes, absolutely criticize your current employer and the state where the entire country is flocking because of the incredibly pro business climate.

/facepalm

Just because that's all that you qualify for doesn't mean that it is the only jobs available. There are many professional jobs out there hence why the vast majority of coworkers that I know that were laid off are already employed and doing very well.

Look, if you are having a hard time finding a job right now, you either didn't have enough experience with the company (few years only) or you really were NSI and had zero skillet to provide.

I'm not sure you are understanding the OP point.
He's not looking for a chicken-frying or cheese-slicing job, of which there are plenty of slots and bins to be stuck in.
You appear to not understand the word 'Profession'.
You are ExxonMobil.

This is an issue for all of us.
But it is possible the negativity towards a current employer can be negative in an interview.
Even if it is understood.

Try to be subtle. Maybe you were.
"global conglomerated commodity monster" is a little strong.

EM taboo? Most smaller outfits hardly care that you came from this company. They are just looking for someone that can fill their job.

Many good employees that I know that were laid off are being swept up very quickly. Not sure what your skillet was previously, but it's not exxonmobil's fault that you're having trouble.

Also, the market may not be excellent, but it's not bad right now. There are many people landing jobs and there are many postings out there looking for workers. Stop trying to make excecuses about why you are not finding employment and spend more time being introspective about yourself and what your strengths are.
