Thread regarding IBM layoffs

This is your wakeup call - again

I can’t believe how many people STILL think that as long as they keep busy, remain productive and receive great feedback that they are safe from any layoffs. If the company wants you gone - you’re gone. Nothing you say or do will change that. Wake up and look out for yourself. How naive can anyone be?

The new Kyndryl CFO comes on board 9/2. He knows IBM has allocated approx a billion dollars toward Kyndryl’s streamlining. If folks are resigning/leaving in bigger numbers than anticipated, it just gives him more leeway towards efficiency. Remember he has made his name in breaking companies up into private and public entities that make the most sense. Given that, it would not surprise me if IBM has some interest in parts of GTS

At the rate people are leaving IBM, IBM may not need to lay off too many people!

Given the only comparable complex spin-off (HPE), the time line seems to be approx 10+ months. HPE announced the spin-off May 24 2016 and completed March 20 2017 of the following year. IBM announced in Oct, so we should expect a completion in the Sept time frame. I have to agree with 2olk in that IBM is fully consumed with the spin-off details, and there will be little else to distract them from that stated goal. If they extend much past Sept, that would indicate problems splitting the company up (way too many managers who can nix the overall project), and AK’s restructuring is in real trouble. All indications are for an early Sept announcement, with a mid-late sept official listing for Kyndryl trading. Overstuffing the spin-off with GTS employees is still a very real possibility, due to Kyndryl being able to monetize it, and put a major W on the board for their share holders

RAs aren’t happening until after the first week in sept. NOTHING is happening until after Kyndryl split.

@1hzb+1c9S8gjp - Just a guess... RA Thursday is Aug. 19th.

But given the spinoff, all bets are off... have no clue.

To the earlier poster’s point, I’ve personally witnessed people be removed from the RA list on more than one occasion due to their good performance, or how “essential” they were deemed to the business.

However, someone else always had to be substituted in their place.

You can beat the list, for sure. But you cannot beat the process. Someone is getting RA’ed. But it may not be who initially gets selected.

I'm not defending the procrastinators, but IBM sure is slow in rolling out the RA's. Yes there have been some, but no huge hit. And the rumors on this site haven't materialized into anything of substance either. Perhaps this is luring people into a false sense of security?

The "waking up" really had to occur much earlier... as in becoming an MD or other degreed professional that has some control over their own careers...

Performance has NOTHING to do with Layoffs (Resource Actions) at IBM. It's purely a financial decision driven by the Finance Organization. If you're in the wrong place at the wrong time, you'll get a call out of the blue from your Manager and only have 30 days notice that you're being fired by IBM. So, update your Résumé and start looking NOW, so you don't get su---r punched like so many other good, hard-working employees at IBM have.
