Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Not worth it anymore

I don't get how so many people continue to sing praise to Chevron as a great place to work when it hasn't been that for years. I've been trying to find my way out for the past six months because this ridiculousness is not worth it anymore.

Why should I have to go to pointless meetings that last forever while getting nothing done just to have to stay overtime to finish my work?

Why should I have to worry that my proposal to improve a process will possibly get me fired because "that's not how we do things here?

I shouldn't and I'm not going to. I finally got an offer and I can't wait to be out of here.

Chevron's main interest in Corporate Responsibility is doing as much as it can for as little investment as possible. The minimum to avoid looking really terrible. Less than 1% of revenue in all cases.

If you think Chevron has no business in alternative energy sources you need to start reading the literature that’s out there. There are huge solar projects starting up in California, for example, and Big Oil companies are moving heaven and earth to get involved in energy transition. Just look at what Exxon Mobil, BP and Total are doing. It’s more than just alternative energy, it’s also about creating jobs for people. This is where corporate responsibility becomes important. It’s not only about making profit but helping your communities. It can no longer be about me, me, me.

Oh yea, environmentally destructive lithium strip mining and toxic waste battery diaposal. Sounds green enough for me, as long as it spites my enemies, lol.

Chevron has no expertise nor ability to gain a competetive advantage in alternate energy sources - wind, solar, hydro, nuclear, tidal. Solar and battery is likely to win out as costs continue to be driving down by Chinese producers.

CVX has one of the strongest balance sheets so why would it slowly die out? if there is astute leadership why would you not move into other forms of energy provision.

@1iqs, so you are just admitting that you are so pathetic and useless that CVX is the best that you can do and you cannot get a job anywhere else, so you just whine and complain about it to others. You just don't realize that it's the pathetic and useless individuals who make the conditions at CVX that you detest what they are. Don't let the door hit you in the A$$ on the way out sweetie.

It's funny how many repliers can't refute your post with anything positive to say about CVX. They just say "well it could be worse". It's like they view themselves as CVX assets instead of individuals with the option to pursue better opportunities.

You lack perspective. Be thankful you werent born 100 years ago. I suspect you would not have enjoyed being a factory worker or a coal miner.

It is called earning a paycheck. People go to work everyday to experience conditions that are less than ideal to earn a paycheck. I have seen people leave their corporate jobs and do extremely well for themselves. I have also seen people leave their corporate jobs and end up rather poorly. There is always a risk when you leave your current company. Good luck.

I am forever scarred by the time I spent in horrible meetings at Chevron listening to i d i o t s speak. To this day, I find it difficult to sit through any sort of meeting, either online or in person. Life is too short for nonsense.

My advice to those of you still at Chevron is to get tough with meetings. Refuse to attend and tell people why. If you do show up, insist the meeting be productive and focused on working issues. All info must be shared in advance so people come ready to debate and decisions. There should NEVER be slides or information presented for digestion during a meeting.

Good decision. Chevron moving forward will be run by clueless high pots managing equally clueless and unmotivated staff. The brain drain of qualified workers will be MW’s legacy.
