Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

If you're Corporate and furloughed- find another job

To be transparent here, I am currently furloughed myself and have multiple contacts at a high level who are currently active.

Based on what I hear an accurate guess is probably that 25% of currently furloughed corporate employees will return when callbacks happen and the rest will be laid off. This isn't anything that hasn't been hinted already, but it's rather lame considering Macy's is opting to blow through people's unemployment benefits before actually being transparent with them on their status. I'd like to think a severance will be offered but can't say I trust that at it will.

I have director friends who know none of their employees will be returning but the company has directed them to be tight lipped about it. I think most can understand times are tough and jobs will be cut, but your employer not being honest with you is rather unethical.

Would also like to point out one thing most people don't know. One week after everyone was put on furlough, Gennette approved executive bonus in full for all director and up employees, the majority of which who were still active and receiving their pay as normal. And I'm not talking a reduce rate, they received FULL bonus. Talk about poor taste for a company who claimed it needed cash flow.

Again, we all know the company was going to be lighter in the fall but the reality is most will not be returning. Your company isn't going to be honest with you about this until you're actually told. It's a very tough job market out there right now but I advise you start exploring it if you haven't already.

Thank you for your input. Im on pins and needles and the wait game is a mental nightmare.
I'm in corporate and have a touchbase with my manager today or tomorrow. Now im betting they will not give details but perhaps i will get a sense of something for us to understand.
Promise to keep you posted and please keep us posted if you hear. It's the 3rd week in june so the time is ticking.

I would think the rules are a little different for NY and NJ since we are just starting to open this week. Very few of us were even allowed to come back so if you haven't been called back yet, I would give it time.

I don't know how the company is going to handle layoffs, though. Because I would also think they would want to decide who is getting laid off by the end of June, rather than continuing with benefits for everyone who is furloughed. The could lay off some people but keep others on furlough who they want to bring back but are not yet ready for.

I'm just spit-balling here, FYI.

If didn’t hear any yet I* think we are not selected for coming back. But company won’t announce yet for lay offs till last minute to save their money with not paying the severance. This is what I’m guessing.

This company is s—s. They called back many people already but keeping in secret themselves didn’t announce any to the rest of people yet. They are not responsible about people AT ALL. Disrespectful on how they run the company. Stupid leaders.

That was Tractor CEO talking about the 200k... not "everyone". He is in his own bubble. Most Directors are $100k and up, pre 10% cut. And honestly who cares if they go back to their original pay. I agree to the below person, the people I talk to are working all the time and deserve their full pay if the company can afford it!

lol now I know you are all full of it and have no idea what you are talking about. the people who got cut 10% were not making i repeat not making over $200k. Most aren't anywhere near that.

10 percent reduction on average 225000 is still very high salary – still 200+ K per year

For what it's worth to those upper level employees on here crying about their 10% pay reduction... that has officially been reinstated for them. Still no word on furlough's returning...

For what it’s worth, the people who are not furloughed are working their butts off (at least the ones I’ve been chatting with). Nonstop working even with 10 percent cut. I’m enjoying my life , having a long Vs vacation, even if I am making less money. But definitely hope to be back by August or whenever they announce the info. Thank you to the above poster.

I also agree to the below post. I got my bonus before I was furloughed. We were originally told the bonuses were pushed to nov or canceled (I honestly forget) but then Jeff announced they day before our last day we were getting te bonus. That’s the only reason why I’m surviving right now is bc of that $$.

The 4th paragraph is incorrect. I am currently furloughed, but I did get my bonus, as did my colleagues. (we're under Merchandising). Furlough was announced Monday, communication of getting the bonus was Thursday, and Friday we peaced out. The week after or so I got the bonus money.

Also, as you may know, all Directors and above got a 10% pay cut. I think GBM's got even more of a paycheck (understandably so).

I do appreciate the other info though, but wanted to clarify about the bonuses, since many furloughed people got their bonus. Some people did not who are not under Merchandising. for a reason I do not know.

It was a correction to a false statement. Directors aren't taking home their regular pay.

Yes, the people who stayed on are very fortunate. I know I am grateful. The work is also harder and more demanding than its ever been.

So take a 10% reduction on a 6 figure salary plus a nice bonus...or furloughed with zero salary. What's your preference?

All Corp Directors and above that stayed on also took significant pay cuts... i don't see that mentioned in the original post. To say they were getting paid as usual is false.

I’m furloughed from MTech and I heard the same from my boss today. Said expect a call from HR with the bad news in the coming weeks. Thankfully he had the decency to give my team and I a heads up.

8 regions possibly going to two is another nugget I heard as of today. No need for all that travel and etc when there’s Zoom.

?? Funny that the RDOS were all brought back, but none of the DVP's or their division people, either. So your rumor holds NO truth at all.

That was the point! Everything being suggested here is a rumor.

Usually changes happens every July, I remember two years ago in my store 703 most of our associates got a severance package. Also they had problems claiming unemployment benefits.

Be careful what you chose to believe. This site has a history of misinformation and not just on the Macy’s board. There’s a reason why traffic is so low

Dvp’s are not going away. May be less of them and change the title again with more stores. Rumor I heard is Rdos job goes away and only divisions remain. Guess we will know by the third week of this month.

The person posting that stores will report to the regions and that the divisions are going away has merit.
I know several people in the know, and am hearing the same thing. I’m a senior director store manager and if you listen to the tone on our calls you can hear it heading that way.
The company is finding that it’s easier to communicate to the stores and take action without the division (former districts) in the middle.
Too bad. My DVP and Visual are really good.

How exactly is visual and merchandising going to combine? Because I can't see the merchandisers dressing mannequins and climbing to the ceiling to hang 100s of big red balls for holiday.

This is so wrong. I know the divisions are being shrunk and less of them but not going away. Some jobs will combine
