Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Job Market isn’t real…

I spent the last month researching and applying for jobs, using my network connections. Sadly it seems that there are many Ghost Job postings and very few real opportunities right now. Most of the connections I have at other places are telling me that reqs are being frozen or that jobs were filled internally. It’s discouraging.

No matter how much evidence is presented about the economy being in a recession with stagflation on the horizon, people won’t believe you

Yup, we’re there. But 90% of the media won’t mention it, because “orange man bad”
The next 3-5 years are going to be very, very tough. .

Lots of impacted engineers were not PPT De/Fellow types. some were hard core coders working on an area that wasn’t aligned with the business. Stop conflating things to compensate for reality. Jobs don’t exist, it’s a recession.

Either a Lemming or the one controlling the narrative. Either way you are wrong

Outsource everything and increase profits !! Capitalism and global trade for the rich. Peanuts for the poor and middle class.

The bootstraps competitive technical people used to pull themselves up were strong skills, jumping jobs for more skills and more pay, acquiring stock and growing an investment base strong enough to live on.

If you're writing bug fixes in a 46 year old language for the past 20 years at one company, living in a highly leveraged pasteboard palace and a driving highly leveraged Mercedes while partying in the most expensive metro regions in the world you should adjust your expectations for when the economy hits a real wall.

It’s not a lack of skills, it’s a lack of jobs.

I coded every day. Don’t tell me there are jobs when there are not. They simply don’t exist right now.

There’s always a role for technical professionals. There isn’t a need in the real world for PPT politicians that fill Cisco . That’s why many who leave Cisco are fu---d because they haven’t kept their skills up to date.

are you sure you have the skills that the market wants? I know folks who were impacted by LR and found a job within two months. maybe it's not the market. maybe it's you

It’s coming for you bro

Now ask yourself why would there be a bunch of fake job postings? Are they to help push a narrative like “the economy is strong”? It is an election year after all…

Definitely had some roles that I interviewed for filled internally. Frustrating. Those would have been life-changing jobs in terms of compensation. Oh well. But jobs are still out there, recently I got 3 offers.

I’m in agreement. I’m 18 months post Cisco separation (early ‘23 LR) and still have yet to land anything. A few leads, one solid interview next week that looks promising. I’ve begun to think about career change, but it’s hard when you’re pushing 50.
