Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Contract roles

I’m a contractor and have been offered a role (not once but twice) at Dell. I thought they were trying to reduce headcount?

I believe this is the 2nd or third role that has been offered to me in the same team. Anyone shed light on if this would be a good idea to take ?

I know a handful of folks who were longtime Dell employees (and good ones!) who were laid off and are now "vendor access" (ie, contractors). Across both sales and services. Interesting to see this play out in the opposite direction...

@1lqf+1sRna1Ua we know there's a potential problem here if these were job elimination and exact role was posted and vacant less than six months

Meanwhile my team laid off talented experienced badged staff and reposted their roles as contractor roles one month later

consider opting to remain a contractor and let this play out

There appears to be a push to move contractors to FTE roles (which seems counter intuitive to what we hear about WFRs etc) however it is likely to be a mitigation tactic around contingent workers and staff Aug.
What I hear is that it’s a ‘sizing’ exercise to firstly mitigate co-employment risk, but then determining what headcount is actually needed to do the work. When they do that, well, you know what happens then to anyone deemed to be excess baggage

I am full-time. I would gladly convert to contract. Dell can keep their benefits and employee perks. lol.

just pay me cash and for 40 hours.

heed the guidance not to convert unless they back up the money truck and you are ready compromise work / life balance, provided you have that now

Just depends on goals, skillsets, marketability, etc. there’s no way to know if you’re more or less secure as a W2 for now. I wouldn’t do it unless they paid you stupid money you couldn’t turn down, and I’d advise moving on from Dell either way.

Ride them bareback on money...or else they will do that to you. Think twice about taking that offer. Place is a graveyard of talent

Don't do it. Or if you do, make sure you are paid a bunch of $$.

The place is utterly depressing.
