Thread regarding National Oilwell Varco Inc. layoffs

Why is NOV STILL posting jobs?

WTH? NOV has laid off any talent it ever had... Those thrown in the street looking for jobs see that NOV is posting for jobs. Why did they not put people into those positions instead of laying them off? Hmmmm...looking for people that DON'T know what's really going on??? Unbelievable. Seems like this kind of activity should be questioned.

Steve,

Sorry, no, I was not expecting any answers. My post was complete sarcasm about NOV's current "management". The situation NOV is in right now was made significantly worse by covid, and the price of oil, but the lack of leadership, direction, drive and ambition in this company began at least 4 years ago. PM had always been the heartbeat of the company, and once he left, that heart quit beating, any and everyone who knows anything has seen it slowly crumbling apart ever since. Some of it was because of "Global Corp" necessity, but most of that should have been choked down years ago and not allowed to dictate the operation of the company. When you let Accountants, IT, HSE, and HR run the company instead of REAL CEO's, Presidents, VP's, Engineers, and Managers, what happens is what happened here. Once you start making cuts due to anyone's age and pay, over who they are and what they have and can do for the company you are DOOMED. And I am not talking about me, way better people than me were sent home over last 4 years. When you cut a great older "tainted, as you put it" employees making $100K+ just so you can keep 2 young fresh blood zeros making $50K each.... well you do the math. Zero + Zero = Zero and from the last handful of Quarterly Reports, I think it's - Zero actually.
As far as my drive, ambition, and habits, it's because of my drive, ambition, and habits that it k–ls me to see what NOV has been turned into. I'd be glad to put my accomplishments up against just about anyone's here, not because I'm that good, but because I worked with and for GREAT people. Best of luck to everyone, maybe I'm wrong and CW and his band of merry men can pull the nose of this power diving plane up, but I'm thinking they can't and worse, they won't, even if they know how. I'm keeping my seatbelt on nice and tight just in case.

if you ask dumb questions like that, do you expect a smart/rational answer? you part of the reason NOV cleaning house. you get s—ed into the sh–ty culture and lazy habits that have plagued this company. fresh blood not tainted and probably have more drive and ambition than you do.

Springclean time. Swapping bad performers/overpaids for fresh flesh

For almost 5 years now NOV has swapped knowledgeable, well paid, experienced men and women to KEEP THESE BAD performers........ Fresh flesh doesn't make it a better company. Does Mall Cop ring a bell anyone???

Companies post jobs even while laying off so they can:
(1) Collect resumes for the rehiring/replacement.....
Mgmt/HR should take up collecting butterflies or something else they actually can learn about........ they've already shown their expertise in collecting and keeping worthwhile employees!

(2) predict future labor market & (3) probe current availability......
DUH! There are over 21 Million unemployed people right now.......... I'm sure a few are available! BUT see #1 again.....

(4) scan/sift for "unicorn" workers that are experts that just happen to be free or looking for a change. In fact, several O&G companies are running/renewing postings they've had up for months - just to see who will bite.
AH HA! Looking for UNICORNS!!! Maybe that's what NOV needs UNICORNS!!!! See #1 again!!!!!!!
