Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Here's a crazy idea

What if Jim Farley:

  • Setup his office in a plant of the vehicle with recalls
  • Have the Chief Engineer of the vehicle sit with him
  • Spend one week on the plant floor
  • Listen to the plant workers
  • Have the engineers work with them to resolve issues.

Crazy idea?

Jimmy has a marketing background. If he sat down with an engineer, his eyes would glaze over in 2 minutes. "Whats all this math and science cr-pola you are talking about? I can sell rubbers in a convent, but I have no idea what all this A squared + B squared stuff means....."

@1nnx+1r0uNfvp yeah people sure like to mock Elon, but he doesn't just sit around in a cushy over decorated wood paneled office and give lordly directions, that's for sure. probably micromanages but what you gonna do, you know? i for one would have pushed back on the gull wing doors and the fancy door handles. dude, use a regular door handle. nobody cares.

@OP. Fartley wants to be Elon Musk, but without sleeping under the desk in a factory. LOL. Don't people realize that what made Elon successful was exactly that (hard work)? Nope, it is better to go racing and brown.ose the Ford family.

Funny, that’s what happens now. Ask any PVT engineer what they do all day. Some of our issues are engineering. A lot of our issues are the VO side not wanting to change their processes. I don’t know how many daily plant quality meetings I’ve been in where the plant supervisors just flat out lied about containment of manufacturing issues just to meet their first run and first time thru numbers. We treat CAL as repair instead of inspection because if it’s truly an issue CAL will fund it.

Anyone who works with the UAW for a week quickly realizes the problem is not in Engineering.

Oh no...he's way too important for that.

How often has anyone seen the c suite walking through any plant or engineering or test office just to get familiar with the working class?

That is hoe the Japanese do it. I once read that Chief Engineer of Honda Civic had to Chauffeur the CEO for delays in the launch
