Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

How many people left from the beginning of the year?

There was always talk about attrition and in most cases the numbers that employees speculated about were overblown in my opinion, but now I think it’s different.
Lately not a day goes by that I don’t hear about somebody I know leaving the company and It is more than obvious that the headcount is shrinking. What do you think, how many people left the company from the beginning of this year?

Thanks, understood. The vast majority of our tech workers are actually still in the United States. I feel really good about that.

@4acs, half was just a guess. I figured if 70% of our tech employees are based in India, it would be 50% or our whole company.

This tells me that you are exaggerating after a coworker left

Actually, there weren’t thousands of people that were fired and replaced by people with brown hair and brown eyes. That is only your racism speaking. One of the best things that Todd did for us was NOT firing anybody, even those who really should have been. He gave them all displacement packages that so many of us, including me, dream of.

Absolutely nothing that you write is accurate.

Again with the “half of your employees in a country where only 5% of your business is”, which is obviously a reference to India, when 80% at minimum of our employees are actually in the U.S.A. You are so blinded by your racist assumptions that you cannot function.

No, stating facts isn't racist. But you are manufacturing completely false statistics due to your racist obsession. Realize that terms such as “half of your employees” actually have a meaning and that when it is really 10% you have issues. Please seek some help before this gets worse.

@3xxn, stating facts isn't racist. If anything, it's racist to have half your employees in a country where only 5% of your business is. Not to mention the way they treat women in India and the fact that they have 20% of the world's 40,300,000 slaves TODAY.

This is very true that “we don’t always layoff because we are trying to reduce employee expenses. The wrong people to have here are never going to leave on their own.”

This is actually my favorite thing about the Todd era. It could be that he has a good heart, or it could be that he was sympathetic to displacees due to the pandemic, or that he was afraid of legal aspects.. Nonetheless, whatever his reason, he gave generous layoff packages to very many employees who should have been terminated with cause (no package). We all should admire him for that.

Your outright racism is intolerable.

We are a global bank and we hire globally as well at almost all levels. India takes a lot of heat here, mostly due to the personal prejudices of employees, but while you’re sleeping people at our client sites are using our services and so we hire globally to follow the sun. A bonus is support of our customers in their languages and customs.

Don’t be an ugly American. People are people everywhere.

Why are people downvoting the FACT that despite all of the paranoia and false reports of evil Todd’s layoffs we are down only 3,090 from our high of 54,000, or 6% over the last 4 years. And this includes job security over the pandemic.

Why aren’t we feeling good about our job security right now and why the constant unjustified paranoia?

The numbers don’t lie, this is a solid and stable place to work.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that it’s easy to work here… just don’t act like we’re displacing Wi--y Nilly when we’re not.

@1oun, it's kinda hard to tell anything from the employee numbers on our quarterly reports when they hire 2 offshore people for each onshore person they fire.

Most of the more clueless posters know of nothing beyond their aisle.

We do need a lot more attrition but it’s hard to see that happening without some serious investments in technology.

It’s not half, you’re spreading completely baseless information. Maybe half of one group has left but certainly not the half of the bank.

3720 people either left voluntarily or were terminated between Jan 1, 2022 and May 31, 2022, based on corporate headcount reports. We had 49664 employees on 12/31/21 and 50910 on 5/31/22, so we’ve hired 1200ish more people than we’ve lost in those 6 months across the organization.
