Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Have we reached the bottom? Just wait...

The company has eliminated some of the most productive workers. Many folks that just push paper, create slides and talk nicely are kept. This scenario is not a good one for any company. This will come to hurt Exxon over next several years and it'll be a slow demise without much news coverage.

Yours is a beneficial suggestion but it is too late for that now. The wheels were already set in motion, arrow has left the bow, etc. etc. :). I have wasted enough time doing nonsense unproductive leadership activities over last several years that I am nowhere close to being PIPed unless I make someone trip the bottom of stairs.

Money is pretty meaningless knowing how much valuable time I wasted in this company not developing new skills or following my passion and interests. I have been fortunate to be financially very secure (part credit goes to EM) and I am somewhat lucky to have a pedigree that allows me to easily get good quality jobs and career options.

The leadership team that you are referring to, can we not take the world leader out of this team please?

@1eoc+16SXlPf1 - you sound like my ex-boss. He did nothing but s_ck up to the Leadership (ha ha!) Team and make powerpoint decks for the endless rounds of meetings he attended. He relied on everyone else in his Team to actually DO the work.

Sheltered life? Absolutely not. Close to retirement after a full career at EM I have seen the company change, year after year. Your eyes are not yet open, it seems - aiming for a LT position?

So many things wrong, yes, but not with my comments: they are true, they reflect reality.

If we can get rid of the supervisors and managers levels, yes, we reached the bottom, these group of brainless leeches knows nothing but to s— the LTs

So many things wrong with your comments. Do you live a very sheltered life?

1) EM does care about it's employees. Just because there are seperations doesn't mean that they don't care. They are a business and need to make business decisions.

2) Just about every corporation has shifted American labor overseas to get the benefits of reduced costs. The ones keeping employees here are disadvantaged globally.

3) there is nothing wrong with open plan work environments. Again, business decision on upfront capital costs vs reduced productivity.

4) not everyone is more / equally productive wfh. There are many people that I've talked to that want to be back in the office because of the distractions at home.

"We care about our people", "people are our most valuable assets", "we are EM" and more of such hollow slogans.
EM moves jobs to low(er) wage countries and does not care if the quality of the work there is (at least as) good or if it creates more work overall. As soon as another country offers even lower wages the jobs are moved again. Sustainability (let alone improvement) of work quality is a joke.
EM still believes open plan offices are productive.
EM does not trust employees to WFH although "forced Covid-19-WFH" proved it works just fine, often even better than "collaborating" in offices.
Higher management has absolutely no feeling with the work force.
Other companies understood a while ago that treating people like EM does is not a win, for anyone.

The ones I know on PIP, while nice people, are certainly the not most productive Lol

I am a top ranker and leaving the company on my own terms. Why? Because, the only way for me to keep my rank high is to listen to nonsense of incompetent managers and tolerate sycophant supervisors all around. My sole job is to attend meetings and once in a while order people around to make powerpoint and then edit it and reshare it. Wait I actually open up excel sheets once in a while as well.

Not one person here in EM management has a single ounce of talent. I cannot do this for next 30 years of my life. My simple solution – Bye! I will be very successful wherever I am going or will go and I will play by my own rules as well as will be able to follow ethical practices.

Get over yourself. There are plenty of good employees across the company still here. With much work being pushed out to years from now, there is literally no work for those "productive" people to do.

The headcount reduction had to come with the lack of projects work that will follow.

“Most productive?” Get over yourself. There were some good people let go but it was a mix across all levels of quality. Plenty of great people still at the company at all levels, and plenty of awful ones.
