Massive PIPs coming with next Checkpoint

Per recent Ric in-person meeting in Rochester: "Managers aren't good/comfortable at discussing performance with low performers and that drags down Operational Efficiency"

Thus as part of Operational Efficiency (anchor the dividend you know) said downline directive metric/goal of 10% of all employees should be on PiP (because you know, can't be any thing else) as part of next Checkpoint cycle.

So sell yourself hard in Checkpoint ... and hope for the best. If your manager has ever - but esp recently - had "growth area" on your reviews - you'd in particular be prime for PiP.

So, what, end of January to mid February? For Checkpoints signed by upline and thus "performance" check box also submitted to HR .... initiating processes.

So that timeline is a significant timeframe to watch/expect traffic here ;) and the (desired) attrition I'd guess playing out remainder of 1st Quarter.

Folks be ready as that IS coming down on all groups.

To @1prq the only thing about "PipMas" (love the term!) is the December 15th (17th?) date of record to be paid any 401k matching whatsoever. Yup. Look it up.

That said - that sh---y non per-check matching - ends at the end of the year and finally will be comparable to other companies - matching credited per-paycheck.

But if IBM is sending you to the coal furnace for Christmas - and you're in 401k (damn well should be doofus!) - contrive to make it to the 2022 401K matching date of record.

In other companies PIP= no bonus.
At IBM no bonus for everyone! We are all on a PIP!

1wzv You have hit the nail on the head. IBM is only using RA’s when they exit a market. (the current example is Watson health). PIP’s are used for IBM to make existing markets more efficient. That doesn’t mean they are right, but it does mean that HR has deemed them cheaper. Given the current environment (Meta nuking 11k and pausing hiring into 2023, Microsoft hitting 1k and pausing hiring, Google hitting 2k and pausing hiring, and Amazon pausing hiring), you can see that the headwinds are blowing and IBM will have to react. They will pause hiring, and implement PIP’s. In IBM’s eyes, headwinds issue addressed. There is still the persistent rumor that IBM wants to exit the manufacturing and servicing business which has been reinforced via the Wall Street analysts. Given that IBM has now wrapped on the Kyndryl spinoff, I would expect some portion of “Infrastructure division” to be in the cross hairs. Time will tell, but PIP’s are definitely on the agenda for 2022, and going into 2023.

PIP is the new RA. Why are they putting people on pip instead of RA them? The answer is simple. They DONOT PAY SEVERANCE.
Guys, be aware if you are put on a PIP with unreachable giaks you can also file a lawsuit against IBM.

Just got a call from an IBMer in Security being out on PIP with unrealistic numbers to meet by 12/31. I’m glad I left last year.

I'm retired from IBM. A past colleague I worked with in Systems (enterprise storage) was put on a PIP last week.
