Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Salary Transparency

The company isn’t transparent with us, but doesn’t mean we can’t be.

Post your years of experience, CL, and salary.

Bonus points for ranking history, gender, and ethnicity.

I’ll start: 8 years, CL 25, 160k. Historically ranked in top two groups (Top third old system, excellent and outstanding in new system). Male. White.

The real benefit of high ranking is:
+ Self esteem
+ Faster promotions which equals higher salary
+RSUs

There isn’t much difference in the salaries within a CL. The big raises come when your CL increases. If you draw a graph with cL as the z-axis and salary as the y axis with a point at CL23, $100k and another point at CL 29, $300k then connect with a line you basically have the salary band.

Many people start off strong but very few people continue to receive CL increases so almost everyone slows down at between $200 and $250k.

People worry way too much about ranking. If you see the salary ranges for a CL it isn’t all that significant. RSUs are a nice bonus but you have to be willing to stay for your entire career due to the long vesting schedule. Considering most people’s salaries plateau when they reach their late 30’s or early 40’s I am not convinced the RSUs are all people make them out to be. Go work in Tech. Their RSUs vest much more quickly and grow not just pay dividend. Tech also tops off their stock awards if the stock value declines before you can cash it out which ExxonMobil doesn’t do.

From info I’ve gathered:
CL23 $100 to $115k (YEE 0 to 7 years)
CL24 $115 to $130k (YEE 5 to 10 years)
CL25 $130 to $175k (YEE 10 to 25 years)
CL26 $160 to $195k (YEE 12 to 25 years)
CL27 $180 to $250k (YEE 20+ years)
CL28 $235 to $300k (YEE 25+ years)
CL29 $285 to ???

No guarantees you will keep receiving CL increases over time. Most people seem to hang out at CL 26 for quite a while. Retiring as a 27 or 28 is pretty common.

If you don’t post your organization, the information is somewhat meaningless. A CL 24 is going to be making different amounts in Engineering vs Controllers vs HR vs Marketing.

“Post your years of experience, CL, and salary.”

From what’s been posted so far, every last one of you is overpaid.

How much is forwarding an email and dropping an extra slide into a PowerPoint a few time per day worth? I put it at $85k/year (max).

Every company in the industry would do well to downsize. They can start with the massively bloated, expensive, and generally useless corps of middle managers. There’s a lot of needless redundancy in senior management as well; no need to have three people with different titles and the same role making “strategic decisions”. One will do just fine.

While we’re at it, let’s start automating more processes and updating the embarrassingly antiquated software platforms that are the industry standard.

The business model used by the O&G industry is so bloated and wasteful that it can’t even be called capitalism. It’s something else entirely.

For anyone wanting to chime in to this thread, just a friendly reminder to be vague enough to stay anonymous, posting too many details can make you identifiable. (i.e. give ranges instead of exact numbers).
