So would I be under performance for not working OT?

So I recently joined the bank, I’m non exempt employee, which means I need to be paid for over time. But I never report OT, since I feel like my manager wouldn’t like that. And my manager works nonstop. I mean I’ve seen him replying emails on Sunday, he had pinged me on 8pm Friday. Called me on 8pm Friday. But I don’t deserve work that late, my paycheck doesn’t deserve that. Since I’m a new joiner this year. I’m worried that will I be evaluated under the average just because I don’t work over time as crazy as my manager?

Accept opportunities to work harder and build your reputation for a solid work ethic. Be cheerful and help others. In other words work like a boomer.

You do get noticed - Yes and more work is dumped on you. Colleagues / co-workers just send the work towards you with a simple email forward or calling you the SME. Even the manager does the same.

It has never translated into promotions / bonuses / raises. And the worst aspect of it anything new goes to the team members who are "free" .. and you are stuck in the old And if you automate it then the manager walks away with the credit and eliminates you.

It is a lose-lose situation.

It’s not rocket science.

  1. come into work, ready to work and on time
  2. work hard and be cheerful
  3. put in the extra effort cheerfully
  4. don’t sc--w off on the job
  5. always go the extra mile

Do the above for a year and you’ll be getting good raises, visibility and promotions.

In other words, act like a boomer with a work ethic.

Haha. Going the “extra mile” at this place just get you more work with no additional compensation… Just more headaches and more time away from things that actually matter in life.

do your job during your 8 hours , turn off the computer & enjoy yourself until you have to logon the next 8 hour workday.

Totally disagree. Going the extra mile gets you noticed and can really ignite your career. It definitely sets you apart from the lumps in the aisle. You will reap rewards.

@1ksy, employers do NOT have to pay you if they call you after hours once in a while. And it's up to the employee to enter the correct hours that they work.
"While the United States Supreme Court has stated that employers are not required to pay for de minimus after-hours work, generally less than 10 minutes, the work performed outside of work hours is viewed collectively and not on a per-email or per-text basis. If an employer has reason to believe that employees are receiving and sending multiple emails each day outside work hours, that time should be compensated."

Document, put in the overtime, and ask for payment. If your manager called you late requiring something then you are entitled for payment for your services since it was required and not optional.
If they cause a problem get a lawyer and file EEOC complaint.

If you work OT you have to put it in. You could sue if you don’t. I never hesitated to put in OT.

You are a number, remember that. They won't think twice about cutting you. Don't give more than you need to.

You should account for all your time in ppm. If they don't want to pay you for OT, then you should not work it. An employer does not have to compensate you for an occasional phone call after hours but if it's more than 10 minutes or it's every day, compensation is required.

Your manager and the company is in violation for not approving or paying you OT, place it on your time sheet and file a complaint with your state’s employment department.

Review your paycheck for the amount of hours they pay you for and don’t give them a minute more it’s not worth it.
