Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Who wants to bet we hit 100k by the end of this year?

AT&T total number of employees from 2020 to 2023:

  • Jan 31, 2023 160,700 -42,300 -20.84%
  • Jan 31, 2022 203,000 -27,000 -11.74%
  • Jan 31, 2021 230,000 -16,000 -6.50%
  • Jan 31, 2020 246,000 -22,000 -8.21%
  • Jan 31, 2019 268,000 16,000 6.35%

Stephenson and Stankey have ruined this place.

Year end badged target is 75k. That doesn’t mean layoffs, it simply means many employees will move to contractors or move with a divested business .

The key number, as of 1/29/2024, is 135K domestic employees. Let us see where that sits in a year.

Contractors are not counted as employees. The expense for contractors is covered under a different area on the financials.

If you need to know what to expect for 2024 there is a slide in the 4Q financials 'Slide Presentation' that sums it up. "2024 Business Priorities: Do it again..." Expect another 10,000 to 15,000 layoffs for 2024.

I didn’t think contractors are counted as part of the actual employee headcount.

You must be from another planet if you are not aware that T has big hub of employees in India that is growing.

How long have you been here?
We just recently exited the entertainment business. We all know how that went!
Let’s see what the next debt opportunity (no profit) T decides to jump in next.

Wait for it……

Number of employees will not go down. Actually for every laid off onshore employee they will have to employ 7 offshore in India. So expect the number to grow.

The final end number may only be known by a few executive’s. The yearly posted employee numbers are public knowledge and it’s been dismal the last 5 years.

See your 50k and downgrade to 30k, all speculation. T isn’t going to drop 50k employees in one year. They are nearing the correction territory, recalculating after every relocation wave. 2 more years and will be in a much better position as a company. Unfortunately a lot of employees are paying the price for leaderships bad decisions.

In the future there will be a need for much more capacity, lower latency, reliability and faster speeds in wireless and wireline. As the fiber network gets built out, there will be much more room for growth in upgrades, new customers and new technology. Wireless may be a commodity, though it’s very profitable but the largest fiber wireline network is owned by AT&T. So the sky hasn’t fallen yet and a small light is shining at the end of the long tunnel.

Just a bunch of clowns posting fake numbers as usual. Stop trying to scare everyone and instigate fear. Everyone knows that there is a reduction in staffing happening but no one who posts on this board knows anything about final numbers.
