Thread regarding Ford layoffs

If Ford continues to be managed as it is now

it would not surprise me if the company becomes completely irrelevant in the industry.
Maybe someone thinks otherwise? Although I try to look at things positively, I can't help but notice that Ford is becoming less and less relevant.

Ford needs to get back to basics. As a car guy, they don’t have anything to offer. Fusion and Focus are gone, Mustang is a sports car and everything else is SUV at $40K starting price. I miss those times when Mulally was Ford CEO

@1ism+1kuPWM2w it is all about battery production. There is only so much of the materials needed to go around. Tesla has a large supply of the battery materials tied up. This is why Ford jumping to EVs and making all of these lofty projections was doomed to fail. Slow and steady wins the races, Ford tried to put the cart before the horse and the results are what they are.

Countdown until Farley starts walking back the EV production targets. Just like the "fully autonomous vehicle in 5 years!" promise.

Ford is screwed.

@1tlm+1kuPWM2w yeah it is odd that EV production volumes are so low. may be supply constrained still?

Ford becoming irrelevant? Not a chance. That is the precise reason for the Ford+ plan and the global company transformation! Pay attention!
If Ford stayed the failing course from the past 10 years then yes I would agree on being irrelevant.

Ford is already irrelevant. EV volumes are laughable with no chance at the production volume targets that they've publicly set. Overall quality is abysmal so they'll continue to lose market share in the ICE segments as well.

Couple that with failing at every JV they've undertaken, with the VW JV already in disarray, and you'll continue to see investors pulling the plug and dropping out.

2023 could be the Ford swan song with failure at every level.

I don't say this proudly. I'm still here trying to do my part, but the writing is on the wall, folks. Get out on your own terms while you can. I'm looking right now and hope to be gone by end of February.

@1iig+1kuPWM2w You say that "Ford has excellent products". Well, where are they? Maybe it is the mountain so high of recalls (67 last year) that don't allow you to see the so low valley where Ford's quality resides.

@lat+1kuPWM2w I'd not bet on 5-10 years. The F stock is graded as hold (and soon will be back to sell), the debt ratio is really bad (BB = junk), and we know we are still losing market share. In my experience, as soon as the boat starts sinking, all the investors will flee, and the company will go down. I'd give Ford a couple of years top.

@1iig+1kuPWM2w: Then show profit by vehicle line? If the CFO stated last summer the battery cost went up by 40% then how does Ford make a profit on said vehicle? Don't need a HARVARD MBA to ask that question.

Ahhh, modern trolling... insist that "things are great" without supporting data and finish with an ad hominem attack.

That is so not true... Ford has excellent products. Just look at the line up! You are the problem... Just leave if you're not onboard and go play pickle ball ya old toad!

I recall a few years back a Wall Street analyst from JPM. Stated Ford makes 90+% of its's profit from F-Series alone. I believe him before Jim Farley. But in the last couple model years since Art Van (Hackett) and Legend (Farley) have taken over that leadership for top selling vehicle has dropped. I think Ford may have lost that spot? If so The company has to respond big time in the next model year or it will be a matter of time to chapter 11.
Legend boast about EV sales but the bottom line is we are not making money on those vehicles. Keep in mind that includes a government rebate.
Given Bills and Legend track record I am not confident Ford as we know it will survive.. Merger or sale will take place inside of 5-10 years.
