There was a major outage today on an a web facing ascension health system today. The system appeared to suffer a SQL compromise from missing patches that resulted in admin accounts that were not created by ascension having potential access to patient files.
The HCL backup team had to no backups of the system and there are major billing pieces that remain broken now and will have to be done over aside from the possible intrusion by unauthorized users.
This is what outsourcing causes.

Heard people are quitting the outsource companies in droves.
I heard today that their turn over is getting out of hand with teams in just the past couple of months.
The Ascension folks left are about to be running around to figure out their mess.
