Covid spread in office

It seems like half of the office is out due to Covid. Everyone’s inboxes are full of close contact messages received way too late to actually stop the spread of the virus. When is the company going to do the right thing and go fully (or optionally) remote until this surge is over? There is no “collaboration” worth more than the health of our families. Typing this as my entire family is sick due to the virus I brought home from work…

Take working from home out of the equation. It's a fact that the Chevron office buildings have become a "Covid Super-Spreader"! Employees are getting sick in mass each week and in some cases ending up in the hospital.

Why aren’t we receiving notification of cases at the office at San Ramon any longer? Richmond Refinery still gets them. Both are in Contra Costa County.

Covid is once again rampant. Thankfully most cases are mild. Time to close the offices again and WFH. Since it takes Chevron months to make such a decision, expect first mask mandates in the office, then close the office around Sept. 1.

It’s selfish to expect the world to stop and change for just you. Personal accountability has to be a priority. Get vaccinated and wear a mask to protect yourself. If you are high risk with a list of comorbidities, you have to make a realistic decision about your lifestyle.

Didn’t you hear Covid does not exist in Texas, it never has. It’s more than just protecting yourself it’s about protecting the weaker members of our society those with any varieties of illnesses, cancer, etc that will most likely die if they become infected. Our society has become incredibly selfish and a majority do not care about anyone but themselves. If you pay attention in your daily lives it is evident constantly. Covid has shown how selfish people are. Wearing a mask to potentially protect someone you may not know from dying is something that is so easy to do. But a majority of our society cannot do it because they are only concerned about their freedoms no one else’s. Society needs to slow down and learn to think of others not themselves. CVX pretends to care about you but in reality they are no different than any corporation, they will get rid of you if it saves them a buck with no concern for you or your family.

new 'strain' is similar to common cold. I had it in Jan...sore throat, slight fever, then a cough and gone in 4 days. In old days, simply a few sicks days with 'bad cold' and then back to work. And yes, no vaccine for me. BTW, how many folks have we heard poked one, two, three plus times get 'vaccine' anyway. Prior to covid, if sick stay home as to not spread to others, same today.

A lot of you just don't get it. The WFH became the new thing during Covid, and already some of the so-called tech companies are having people come back in. Once a recession hits the WFH will go away and if you don't come back to the ofice you will be let go. I like working from home as well, but I understand that it is not here to stay as a full-time option. Just having a hybrid schedule will be positive. Getting sick is just going to happen whether vaccinated ot not. I finally heard Faucci say it himself in an interview the other day. He said the vaccines do not stop infection, but does help reduce the syptoms. I think we all knew that before, but it was nice to hear him finally say it. This was after he just had two bouts with Covid back to back. I was thinking companies might start offering reduced pay and bonuses for those that want to work from home, but have not seen that yet. It might be a good way to get everyone on the same page moving forward. I know a few that would take a paycut to WFH.

The off campus site has been temporarily closed due to covid and we don't know what's going to happen when we move to Houston. Is there are places in the Houston area to have a little man time near the office?

Work in the office is a complete waste of time. There are far more negatives than positives. Less work gets done in the office, more chance of catching covid, and long commutes. All to do video calls with people. If old timers and red necks want to head in go for it but let other work from home as its worked just fine the past couple years.

People who do their jobs well and efficiently from home have nothing to fear from outsourcing. There is no need to pretend you’re happy to show up to the office to get your serving of covid.

How many working from home work even 3 - 4 hours/day? Seems like we could eliminate another 7-8K jobs just by combining tasks and making sure everyone has enough work to fill a full day.

@1oto you are probably 0.1% of the population. In my team (20 people org) all the ones that want to work from home, its because of all the benefits associated with it (fuel, time savings, family, etc) which is OK. YOu can find them all at the local bar.

No one said anything about keeping everyone away from the office. There should be an option to work from home or come in while there is elevated covid risk. When the levels are lower, the full hybrid policy could be in effect.

Wastewater; good one OP.
First, turn off that fearmongering media. Second, get outsude and expose yourself to the sun and exercise. Third, speak to your supervisor about your situation and make a deal either to come to office or stay at home. Everybody situation is different but we cannot stop everybody from coming to office because 1% of the employees are vulnerable. It is just common sense

There are plenty of us that are still minimizing our activities and always going out masked to protect our families and friends who are higher risk. No bars, restaurants, concerts, anything like that. Going to work is by far the highest vulnerability we have, and it is frustrating that the company can’t be flexible during a covid surge. Just look at the wastewater! Employees should have the option to work from home until the risk is lower.

@1xo. That is OK. Just be transparent about it. You want to work in the comfort of your home. Don't say that you are concerned about the virus, because anyway outside the office you are still going to concerts, bars, restaurants etc. that are area with much higher exposure risk than the chevron office. Dont blame the virus; you just want to work from home. By the way, there are many companies out there that can offer you that.
Why are you trying to change Chevron to accommodate your desires?

Some people using COVID as an excuse for full remote are the same people going out to the movie theaters, big gatherings, concerts, shopping malls , etc. Give me a break. If you don’t want to come into the office. Just don’t! Go find a job that will let you sit at home all day. Simple!!!! Don’t make the company change if you’re not happy. You should make a change.

Getting my family sick from a co-worker does not motivate me to do my best or anything more than the minimum from here on out. I’ll never understand why the company keeps letting us get sick knowing all the time exactly how it’s happening thanks to their own data.

Fully remote? No. America relies on our oil and gas. Sitting at home doesn’t accomplish that. People get sick. It happens. Herd immunity is here and Covid isn’t the deadly virus it used to be.

I am sure 90% of those who are whining about being back in the office outs them at risk just want to work form home and have the spare time to go to the gym, go to the mall, etc....Covid is rampant just at work, not in those social areas. Only a very small group would actually be isolating from the world

Your family is sick not because of office covid but because of that poison you put in your bodies called "mrna vaccines". I have a big family and none of us, I repeat none of us has been impacted by the covid. Guess why? None of us put that immunity destroyer in our precious bodies. We let immunity takes care of it from baby to 80 years old.
Keep complaining and crying over going back to office while ignoring the main cause of your misery.
Plus, many companies out there are offering remote so please go to them and let Chevron be.

Having people frequently get sick due to covid exposure in the office is incredibly disruptive to the business, and it does nothing to help the poor morale or retention issues we’re facing. Chevron stays the course full steam ahead in the wrong direction as usual. Truly a head scratcher!
