Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Have firings increased lately?

This might just be me being paranoid, but it feels like we've had more firings lately. I know of three people who were fired (and I want to emphasize fired, not laid off) in the last two months or so. Only one of them deserved it, in my opinion, which makes me nervous. It could be that I don't know the entire story, of course, and that there was a good reason for each person, but still... I can't help but worry. Has anybody else noticed something like this? I hope the answer is no and this is just a fluke and not the bank's new way of getting rid of employees.

This company I heard will target older workers to fire or layoff. You must document everything when you start to see shlit going against you. The EEOC is there to protect you from rogue companies like Bank of America. You must report them and you can't be afraid. This company will pick on the weak minded. I know one employee who reported there azz and Bank of America left them alone. Trust what I am saying this company doesn't want this shlit on there record and they will stop fuhking with you when you report them.

@1ugw+1gwabJjZ - been here nearly 25 yrs and it's been pretty standard to have to report "outside work" activities to your manager (including board seats). Maybe just not enforced consistently, but it's in the Code of Ethics we have to acknowledge each year.

Could be they're making it more prominent or enforcing now since they may be paranoid that we're all at home day-trading instead of doing our jobs.

But we produced Record Earnings last year, so even "not really working at home", we knocked it out of the park. Apparently we excel at multi-tasking!

If BOA fires you because of age you can file a complaint with EEOC. This company has paid millions in the past on age, gender and racial discrimination. I have a friend that works for the EEOC and said you must document everything and let BOA human resources know you are filling a complaint with EEOC. THIS COMPANY IS KNOW FOR DISCRIMINATION!!!!

A TON of people are retiring (rule of 60).. I think folks always assume they’ve been fired, but People are retiring and leaving on their own in droves since the banks firm ignorance on the new expectations and demands from associates nowadays.
Can’t imagine that they’re actively looking for reasons to fire folks.. layoffs aren’t really necessary- people are over it and finding better opportunities where they can WFH.

I’m going to welfare system if it happens. Gov pays for a big house, and monthly good $$$ and food coupons, why not? My friends rented their houses to section 8 folks, I guess 3000 sqt house is good enough and all I need to do is to relax with kids. Wonderful.

We've had 3 people leave our team in the last month. Not fired, people are just tired of not being heard with RTO.

Can't recall if it was via email of internal website, but the new requirement for employees to report employment outside of BAC did seem odd. That kind of request generally pops up because someone or a group of folks got busted "day trading". It's happened in the past. A guy in NY was working for BAC on the 4th floor and working for another company on the 8th floor at the same time. Took quite a while for anyone to catch on.

On our team, they let go the top Treasury sales rep first. Then about 6 months later, the whole Treasury sales team was cut and some were able to scramble to other jobs internal and external. Next, they cut the entire front line sales team. They offered about a dozen mostly younger sales employees a pretty cushy advisory role and the older workers were shuffled to a really cr---y telemarketing job. Then, after another year, they cut all the older workers who took the telemarketing gig. Within 2 years, they exited the main flagship corporate building for the entire state. So I think this goes in waves, starting with highest paid, then based on age, then the exit of the flagship real estate. At least that is what we saw happen. You can surmise from the tea leaves they really don't appear to want to be here anymore.

In most states like Florida you work at the discretion of your employer. They don't need a reason to let you go unless you are covered by contract. In any case of you are on their radar they can always find a legitimate reason to fire you.

It's so hard to get fired at BOA. More likely a push (drop kick) into another group which doesn't know better.

I don’t think they can just fire someone without cause because there would be legal implications. There are many reasons why good people can get fired. Maybe the employee accidentally pulled the corporate card out of their wallet instead of their personal card while paying for gas. Just one of many, many examples.

Not that I’ve seen.
What were they fired for?

Depends on where you work I guess. My group has been carrying a load of slackers. I swear you'd have to catch them with matches and a gasoline can inside the building and even then HR would want to start with a verbal warning.
